The Role
Loved it. Some tasks were challenging but the people at the firm were a joy to work with. Good mix of socials (including drinks trolley at each department every Friday, where you will get to meet pretty much all the lawyers in your department) and work. Interesting lectures that give good insight to all departments of the firm.
Given real work and all the lawyers I worked for treated me like an equal. Supervisor very patient in discussing my work with me and giving constructive feedback. Generally everyone in the firm makes a real effort to get to know you, from the partners right down to the staff who go around distributing mail.
Supervisors tried to give me a good mix of work. Very patient in explaining the task and the bigger picture and answering my questions. If they were involved in something too technical or time-pressed for me to handle, they would still show me their work and talk me through it a little.
Depended on how busy my supervisor was but generally very manageable.
Started out with proofreading mainly but quickly given more responsibility when supervisor was satisfied with my quality of work.
Extremely useful, helped a lot at subsequent summer placements in other law firms and confident that I will find these skills very useful during my training contract in future as well.
The Company
People at the firm were very friendly and a joy to work with.
Extremely well organised, felt very well taken care of.
As aforementioned, supervisors invested a lot of time and effort in ensuring that I understood the work and patiently answered any questions I had about the firm, industry in general and their personal experiences. Other lawyers and partners would also take the initiative to introduce themselves and invite me to approach them if I had any questions. Lectures and exercises were great learning experiences.

The Culture
Made very good friends with my fellow vac schemers, thoroughly enjoyed meeting them. Drinks trolleys were fun too.
