The Role
this placement was extremely enjoyable. From the beginning i was given so much help and guidance but also the independence to work alone. I was given many tasks/ duties throughout with the opportunity to grow. there was also many social aspects to the job such as PR events, CBT and Goodwood
throughout the 13 months on placement not once did i not feel valued. For example within meetings my opinion was always valued and i never felt that my voice did not matter. Additionally on all business matters i was informed and even if it did not directly affect me i was aware as i was part of the team
throughout the majority of the year i was given alot of guidance. However due to high turnover there were period where i did not have a manager and had to report to more senior staff. Altough this was a good learning curve it was also difficult to report when needed as they were always busy
during the year it fluctuated dependant on the time of year and holidays etc. But especially during christmas and the end of the financial year my workload was immense. At times i could not keep up with the workload and would be working 11 hour days just to get my jobs done.
This is one thing that Honda are great for. They do recognise that you are a placement student but they treat you as one of their own permanent staff. Dependent on your work ethic and ability they are willing to let you go above and beyond your current job role
Being in the human resources department hasnt assisted much with my course as i do not study a business related course. However my excel skills have improved immensly and therefore i will be able to take this skill back to uni and include it within my written practical assignments and reports
The Company
the office is an open plan office, this makes it feel like everyone is equal and open for conversation. Generally the atmosphere is quite calm and relaxed. However this does depend on the department. For example at month end in finance you can feel the pressure they are under to get the task completed
I would say that some parts are very well organised while others are not. Just as with any other business. The communication between Honda and my university was little to none, and they were very unsuire as to what work i would need to do for uni. However the programme itself was good and they were aware of the level i should have been working at
in all honesty very little. Some of the other undergraduates had got to go on excel courses, business trips to europe and many PR events. However i did not get the chance to go anywhere even when assisting with booking. However i understood this may have been due to departmental budgets
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Car
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
very appealing. Honda is a great ocmpany to work for and the opportunities for development and growth are huge, However many people do not leave Honda and seem to stay in the same role for a long time. I would definitely go back as i enjoy the culture and the org structure
The Culture
As there were 12 placement students we all met up for lunch and occasional social events on the weekends. However Honda did not help much with introducting us to eachother. When i started i was not introduced to other students and that was quite daunting at first to be honest
Bracknell had very little bars and clubs but very good train links to reading and London where the nightlife is great! This allowed the placement students to meet up and explore the south of the UK. Drinks and food is alot more expensive than Northern UK but that is expected so close to London
there were volunteering oportunities at the local school to help with interviewing techniques, however my department would not let me go as there was no policy in place for this to happens. Howevert there were other acitivities such as running clubs, new honda circles conventions for all the take part in
