    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I undertook the interview, which was as enjoyable as any interview! The technology worked fine, the video and sound was clear and I particular liked the way the way the window of you answering the question was barely noticeable. It wasn't however very clearly how long we would have to answer the question, which was off putting.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt the support pre interview was good, the team were easily contactable regarding the process. However there was a delay of nearly a week from when I was original told it would go live. This very much disrupted my preparation and therefore it felt as if I was just another expendable applicant

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whilst working for GSK I applied for the scheme. I received lots of support in my development regarding the role I am currently, almost monthly reviews on performance etc which clear set goals enables you to always have direction. Regarding the application my manager plus other regional managers supported me in prep, and provided me with feedback regarding potential answers I had prepared.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In my role I am constantly proactive which is the nature of a sales based role. After shadowing members of the scheme that I have applied for, they have a great work life balance. There is obviously a need to go the extra mile every now and then however this is often rewarded with a good balance of taking back time.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The role gives you the autonomy to make your own decisions whilst being guided by managers/mentors. It is designed so you can learn the skills to be able to take control of your own situation and try out your ideas and projects. However when support is needed you are given a guiding hand.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I did Biochemistry and since graduating 2 and a half years ago, this has given me the opportunity to get back into the science. I would say that this role hasn't assisted me with my science background, however it has developed myself in a leader, communicator and developed me in the ways of work.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Really happy and proactive attitude, everyone wanted to get stuck in and have a great time doing so. It was a safe environment where you are given the opportunity to try out your ideas and ask for support when needed. If things are going so well people do jump to proactively help you.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Other than the interview process being delayed, there has not been many examples that I feel have been disorganization. Things can happen a bit more slower than I may liked at sometimes but this is the nature of working for a large global company. However the systems and process at GSK are very clear and simple to follow.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The scheme offers you the ability to take a marketing qualification and your ABPI (Association of British Pharmaceutical Industry) exam. These obviously look great of a CV and are critical for future pharma roles. The GSK learning platform provides you with plenty of different courses you can do via e learning.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Company Car

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very, the company is focused with change and moving forward with new ideas. If you can prove yourself that you will add great value to the team you soon get given extra responsibilities and opportunities. They are keen to recruit within and horizontal movement throughout the company is relatively simple.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • It is what you make it as in all situations with meeting a new group of people. We as a team often organised out of work events. However in work there are plenty of team building days as well as a big yearly conference for you to meet everyone and have a great night.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I live in Essex which is very much London prices outside of London, so it is expensive. I would say that I looked after my money however it's not like I wasn't enjoying myself and striking a good balance. There are cheaper options about however this might mean a longer commute.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Great, although this is a bit behind me now. However there are plenty of pubs, clubs etc. With myself being only 30 minutes from London, I can easily get a train and then the opportunities are endless. Also being so close to London if thats not your thing there is always something on.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yeah there were loads, the area I live there are plenty of clubs that you can join independently of work, such as football clubs etc. However in work I recently joined my colleagues 5 a side football team. There are many different opportunities to get involved, google certainty helped me out.
