The Role
It is an excellent placement so far. with so many other IP's on sight it made the transition from Ireland to England a lot easier as we are always socialising outside of work and even liaising with other placement student in work in some projects. it is a lot easier getting up in the morning and going to work when it is GSK as everyone understands we are just IP's and don't know everything but also completely value your opinion if you do make a good point.
Very well valued. I felt treated like a proper member of the team from day one and after completing my essential trainings I was given a project immediately but if I was ever in any doubt, my team went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and that I wasn't struggling.
I was given all the support I required. If I ever needed anything at all or any help, I only had to ask and they would sort it immediately and not only that, they checked up on me every so often just to ensure I was enjoying myself and making sure I didn't feel like I was doing unimportant work.
So far I have had loads to do. I prefer a heavy work load so it has suited me so far but if I ever felt snowed under I would never hesitate in asking for help or for some of the work to maybe be reallocated. this hasn't been the case at all yet though.
I have been given plenty of responsibility to carry out different reports and important documents for external suppliers. I have also recently been voted as IP Unite Site Ambassador which is a responsibility I am very excited to explore and try to make it the best possible year for all the IP's.
They have given me invaluable experience and shown me that some of the things I did in university which I thought weren't useful, actually did end up coming in handy and helped me to apply my knowledge to date. I was given good training almost immediately on my role and on the background of ellipta and the processes going into it which meant I never felt completely oblivious to what was going on in meetings which was excellent.
The Company
Fun but productive. everyone got along and we were all up for a laugh from time to time. We had team breakfasts every so often and a few other team events such as barbeques which was always good fun as I got to know them a bit better outside of work.
It was as organised as it could be, but the team I work in is around 70% based on real time events on the line so they had jobs prepared, the majority of work to date was due to a problem either on the line or with production of ellipta.
So far they have given me two invaluable training days on their processes taken by external companies as well as giving me the reigns on fixing a live problem on the line in my 6th week. This was excellent as they gave me freedom to order in prototype parts so it was good to do a bit of design work as well.

The prospects are high as they really look after their employees and are massively invested in young talent. GSK run many graduate schemes, all of which look attractive and I have never heard of anyone who hated working here. A lot of the people I meet have worked here for very long periods of time so it must be a good place to work.
The Culture
Very good social scene. There hasn't been a week yet during my placement where I haven't done at least 2/3 things along with other IP's. Also now that I have been voted IP Unite Site Ambassador I will have to make sure that this continues on until the end of the year.
The cost of living was definitely higher than what I am used to back in Ireland, but the salary is also higher so it balances out quite nicely. The locals were very welcoming though so before I started placement or met any other IP's I found it easy to go and have a drink and chat to the locals.
The nightlife was good here in Ware, not too loud though so it doesn't keep you up at night. However, there is a nightclub in Hertford which is 2 minutes on the train so if the IP's ever want to go out we just get the train in and walk back as it is only a 40 minute walk along the canal.
So many opportunities. From my experience so far, it is what you make of it here at Ware, so if you want to do loads of things with other IP's and make friends, its so easily done, but if you don't try then you will find yourself being bored all the time. London is also only a 40 minute train so there are endless opportunities for things to do.
