    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I greatly enjoyed my placement as each day I was faced with different problems and issues I had to think about and resolve. I was always being challenged to improve daily.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Colleagues were really welcoming and made me feel at home at work. Everyone is willing to help and support you all you need to do is ask. You're never judged for not knowing or understanding something

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager was very supportive as he met up with me on a bi-weekly basis and helped train and develop my weaknesses, based on constructive feedback from fellow colleagues.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Some days would be very busy preparing and running samples in the labs all day. Whilst other days were very quiet with very little on. It all depends on the amount of work packages coming into the team such as development work and clinical release. There was always something to be done though even on the less busy days.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given the opportunity to take up a wide range of different opportunities and responsibilities whilst at GSK. I took an active ole in supporting the team by: booking equipment, arranging and hosting monthly/weekly team meeting. I also got the opportunity to lead my own to protocols looking into solution stability and another protocol looking into rouge peaks appearing in routine analysis. As well as this, I was a member of the Ware site communications team that produced weekly news letters for the whole GSK site.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I have become proficient in a large range of different analytical techniques that I will be able to use and apply when I get back to university. I have also gained a vast knowledge of using HPLC for analysis as well as trouble shooting and performing maintenance on a HPLC as I attended a course in this.
