The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship at Grant Thornton and I would recommend this placement to anyone who is considering working within this sector.
Everyone made an effort to ensure I felt welcome both in the office and out on site. The team whom I worked closely with were very helpful and friendly towards me.
Following on from my comment on the appreciation and friendliness of my colleagues I think that the support and guidance provided by my manager was excellent. I could comfortably ask any questions without feeling irrelevant or of annoyance to my manager.
The placement itself involved a busy itinerary, after receiving in-depth, helpful training I then went out to a client for the Audit department.
I was given a considerable amount of responsibility as an intern, I did not feel overly pressured and anything I was unsure about I would ask another colleague to which I would always receive a great deal of support.
I am currently studying a Business related degree and this includes modules in Financial Management. The skills I learned during my internship at Grant Thornton have positiviely influenced my knowledge on this area. Moreover this has assisted my decision for my future as I wish to continue on in the accountancy route.
The Company
Although I was an intern, I only spent a few days in the office itself but the atmosphere was generally friendly.
Before I started my internship I received an schedule which outlined what I would be doing in each week at Grant Thornton.
From the training and development perspective I feel that the company invests a lot of time in this summer internship programme. This shines through as the whole experience has given me the experience I hoped for.
Company Parties/Events
The internship enabled me to make the decision about my future and I hope to join them next September.
The Culture
I received several emails about the social events that are held internally and externally; these include the social club within the office and also the external social events which are held through fellow students studying for the ACCA qualification.
During my placement I received some expenses as I was working away from home, the prices and cost of living are therefore not relevant to my individual experience.
The nightlife in the area near to the client was good; although I experienced it few times I could not fault the area which we stayed and dined in.
A variety of events were available to employees at Grant Thornton, I did have the opportunity to get involved in activities as a summer intern.
