The Role
I really enjoyed my time with WTW. The work was varied and overall very interesting; I was able to work on a client project and felt that I was given a good amount of responsibility. The office environment was great and the people friendly. If I was stuck with any aspect of work I felt I could talk to someone.
One of the best parts of this internship were the people. The people you work with are very intelligent and work very hard; they expect similar things from the interns but there is also a genuine sense that people want you to succeed.
Throughout my internship I had weekly meetings with my project managers, bi-weekly meeting with my line manager and bi-weekly calls with HR to check on how I was doing ad answer any questions. I also had weekly training on different areas of insurance and could talk to the training leaders if I had any questions.
In general I could comfortably fill my 9-5 schedule. Inevitably there were some days where work was slow, but on those occasions there were jobs that you could pick up. I very rarely had to stay past 5pm unless I wanted to.
As an intern at WTW you typically get put on two projects during you eight weeks. In my case, one was a client project and one was internal. For the client project I was given work to do independently that was then peer-reviewed. For the internal project I was given a lot more responsibility and was essentially able to move the project forward in whatever way I saw fit.
I gained a lot of industry-specific skills at WTW which would be very useful if I were to a pursue a career in insurance consulting. Training included actuarial reserving and profit testing, and introductions to WTW software. I am not sure how useful it would be to my degree studies (I do Geography) but some of the skills are definitely transferable.
The Company
For context I was in the London office in the Insurance, Consulting and Technology team. The office atmosphere was very friendly. There is a hot-desking system so you can sit next to someone new every day if you want to - and that person could be anyone from a graduate to a senior analyst! It may sound intimidating at first but everyone is very approachable .
Overall, very organized. At a company-level we had weekly training sessions in different areas of the insurance industry and weekly talk from senior managers in different areas of the business. Within the office setting the organization depends more on your project manager - from personal experience it can vary from regular meetings, reviews and objective settings to a hand-off approach.
Every week we had training for a different area of the insurance sector which typically involved a short presentation followed by a practical exercise. We also had access to a lot of the company's training courses and software which we would either use in our projects or explore in our own time.

I would very happily come back to work for WTW. The company culture aligns with my personal values, and as a global firm there is scope for a change of career and/or relocation further down the line. My only caveat would be that I would like to try out a few different areas to the business than the one I interned in.
The Culture
Yes, definitely. I worked with Actuaries and so there were quite a few after work event to celebrate exam passes. Although a lot of the business events were drinking-orientated, I also got on well with other interns in my department and we would go about every week to comedy clubs, mini golf etc.
It is central London so pretty high. Although I was able to live with family which brought down the costs. Before your internship starts WTW also sent out a list of employee that had rooms to rent at a subsidized rate to interns, which was a nice touch. Also a lot of the business socials are free.
It is central London so great! During my internship I have been out to art openings, an ice cream museum, an improve comedy night, mini golf and so many great restaurants. Other interns have been out clubbing in the evenings and to west-end shows. It really depends on what you want to do.
There was a football team that a couple of the interns I worked with got involved with, and I heard rumours of a netball team in winter months. But aside from that it was mainly networking events that we would attend. As a caveat, I did have quite a long way to commute so didn't really seek out any extra opportunities.
