The Role
The placement provides the opportunity to learn a variety of different skills, i was given real work which benefited the business. I was told exactly how my work would impact the business and this made me feel really valued.
I feel extremely valued by my colleagues, they are always asking my opinions on things as well as if they can help me or if i had any comment on their projects. They invite me on work nights out and made me feel so welcome.
My manager ensured that i was extremely comfortable with my projects and knew what was required of me. She still gave me massive freedoms within my project while still checking in to make sure i was happy and knew what i was doing.
Due to the nature of the company there will be some days where i have less to do due to waiting for others to sign off my work before i can progress to the next stage. There will also be days where i have a lot of work to be doing.
I was in-charge of three projects and i was left on my own to ensure these met their deadline targets. While my manager checked in to make sure i was on target the responsibility lay with me and this allowed me to increase my own personal development.
Project management will definitely help me at university when i have group projects, being able to manage others in a group is a fundamental skill. Beyond university all the business skills i have learnt ie stakeholder management will not only help me in getting a grad job but also when i enter the working world.
The Company
While the majority of the day everyone is working it is still a really fun environment, everyone is so friendly and jokes are flying around left right and centre. Everyone is super relaxed and its possible to work from home on a Friday.
Very well organised, there is a clear structure with two sponsor reviews one in the middle and one at the end. This allows us to know what we are working towards and when we need to have completed our projects for.
GSK are so invested in personal development, a massive part of my time here was about my development. We all had to create development plans and share them with our managers as well as discussing them in our sponsor reviews. We were also set formal learning to complete online.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Working from home
I definitely am hoping to be offered the grad scheme and if i am i will be accepting. The company has such a great feel and i really enjoy the job i am doing as well as the people. When you have a permanent job there are even more perks.
The Culture
While i was good friends with the other people on my internship scheme i did not know any of the IP students and was never invited to meet them.
I lived at home during my placement so am not sure what the cost of living in the local area is.
I lived at home during my placement so am not sure what the local area is like.
