The Role
I really enjoyed working with MACE. Everyone was very friendly and easy to speak to if I had any questions. I felt like I had a lot of responsibility especially towards the end of the placement and learnt a lot about construction but also about daily life working in an office.
Everyone in the office and on site were very easy to talk to and made a massive effort to help me if I had any questions. I felt that I could help my colleagues with work and they would always be very appreciative of the work that I did for them.
My line manager was very helpful when I first started the placement by introducing me to people on the team and showing me around the office. He also informed me about my future options and gave me very good advice on my future options. Other supervisors were also very willing to support me.
I was very busy, especially towards the end which I really liked as I felt that I could really help the team that I was working for. At the end of my placement I was getting asked to do tasks for people not on my team so I was very busy.
I was given a good amount of responsibility on my placement that I felt I was challenged on a daily basis and was constantly learning new things but not given too much that I felt like I was very out of my depth which made me feel very proud of the work I was doing.
The main skill that I developed is applying what I have learnt at uni and using it to solve issues on site. I have also been exposed to lots of new software that I can use very well now that will help me on future projects. I have also become much more confident in speaking to people in the office and when I have had to give presentations.
The Company
It was a very fun and nice atmosphere in the office that made me feel very confident when I first started my placement. Everyone was very friendly and always offered help if I needed it. I got introduced to all the other people on placements who were all very easy to get to know.
The placement was very organised and I knew what I was going to be doing a long time before I started. I had meeting with my line manager very often to review my progress and set objectives for the end of my placement which was good as I have specific goals to work towards.
At the end of my summer placement the company has offered me a chance to work in different sectors for my industrial placement, and to come back to the project that I was working on in future summers. I was given the opportunity to do many training courses throughout the duration of my placement.
My future emploment prospects are very appealing with the company. At the end of my summer placement the company has offered me a chance to work in different sectors for my industrial placement which are very linked to my univeristy course, and to come back to the project that I was working on in future summers.
The Culture
There was a very good socail scene with other placement students. An introduction day was held at the main office too meet placement students working at the same site as me, but also at diffrent sites. Site tours with other placements were arranged very often to help understand other projects within the company.
I was working in london but the travel into work was very easy and the area around the site I was working on was cheap to eat and socialise. London was very fun to go out with work which really helped me get to know other people I was working with.
London was very fun to go out with work which really helped me get to know other people I was working with. Events for other students on placements and year in industry were organised which were very fun to go to, and meet people with similar interests and doing the same kind of work.
There were many opportunities to get involved with charity events organised by MACE which helped me get to know other people in the office which I would not have otherwise come across. There were also many sport events that you could participate in, which were held all over london with people from all sites.
