    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • The hospital I worked in was Tickhill Hospital in the rehabilitation ward where I worked with mostly elderly individuals who were recovering from injuries and needed constant care. I found this interesting but was not involved as much as I’d like to have been but was restricted due to not being trained to do personal care and therefore did get quite bored during the placement.

    3/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • Due to the limited extent of care and help I could provide; I was often forgotten about and left to my own iniative of finding activities to do with the patients which worked out but would have been better if I could have joined properly with the nurses and potentially shadow one so I got a true feel of working within a hospital and was valued more.

    1/5

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Relating to the previous question, not much guidance was provided and I was left to find ways of making my experience better by working individually rather than in a group and struggled at many points on what in fact I could actually do in order to get a true feel of working within a hospital.

    2/5

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I did develop valuable communication skills by interaction with the patients as well as working independently by using my own initiative which I can use later on in life. I also gained an insight into the lives of those who have to be cared for constantly and was able to connect and empathise with them truly.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The structure of my insight was poor due to the lack of help I received whilst I was there however I did luckily get by myself by using my own personal views and ideas. It did help me to realise that this was not the path I wanted to take.

    2/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere varied; sometimes the environment was friendly and I patients were extremely happy and felt valued by the use of games and activities in order to speed the time of their recovery. However, there were days when it was dull and patients seem to be unhappy due to the lack of support and understanding from staff.

    3/5

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • In fairness, I was hardly noticed. If I hadn’t have turned up I’m sure they wouldn’t have realised, I even offered to help with certain tasks and eyes were rolled in response and they couldn’t be bothered to invest any time in me so I decided that it would be best to do what I thought was best to enrich my time.

    2/5

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • I was highly disappointed with my experience working within a hospital and realised that the environment wasn’t what i would enjoy working in. I felt as though nurses were busy constantly and under appreciated by those higher up, and more than likely underpaid. I realised that I did not want to invest so much time and money into training something I wasn’t passionate about.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I was able to witness first hand how extremely busy nurses are on a daily basis due to lack of staff and lack of funding to hire more staff which was another reason why I wasn’t too keen on choosing to work as a nurse in a hospital in future.

    5/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • This was make or break for me; if I enjoyed thoroughly and felt valued then I would choose it as a career path for me but if I didn’t enjoy it so much then I wouldn’t and unfortunately I didn’t find day to day work in a hospital fitting for me at all.

    3/5

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I only did one week work placement and therefore did not expect any money for taking part. I did however get a parking fine for parking in the hospital when I did not realise that I could not park there as there were no signs to indicate otherwise and would have appreciated reimbursement for that incident only.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • I didn’t do this placement to have opportunities to work within a hospital right away so this is not a negative aspect for me and I’m sure if I’d have chosen this career path then doors would have opened to me and I would have became closer to the staff I worked with.

    1/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Again, irrelevant as I did not want or expect any opportunities so events were not a option for me at all. I would have been looked further into this if I wanted choose nursing as a career path so unfortunately I do not know how the networking and social event opportunities were.

    2/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • I did not find out about any activities that employees can get involved in outside outside of work so I assume that there weren’t any. I don’t know how much further detail I can go into about this because I do not have any insight whatsoever about any outside activities.

    2/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I did not find out about any activities that employees can get involved in outside outside of work so I assume that there weren’t any. Therefore, I couldn’t recommend any insight to a friend because I do not have any unfortunately so I cannot go into further detail about this matter
