The Role
It was a wonderful experience. Everyone was very welcoming and happy to support me.
They were so kind and supportive it really made me feel like a part of what was going on.
My managers were always on hand to answer any questions I had, however some project leaders were not always easy to find.
Toward the start I had little access to anything and could not do much work, and at times I had a little much to do because of this. It settled going into the second half of my placement.
Though the work I was doing was useful and valued, it was all things where it would not matter if they did not get done. However, I had a lot of free reign with these and it was definitely not a case of hand-holding.
I think the people skills will be very useful, however no technical skills were used or developed over the course of the placement. I think I have gathered a lot of knowledge about the business that will aid me through my career.
The Company
It was really friendly and I felt well looked after. It was clear the company cared about its employees and wanted everyone to be in a healthy and happy working environment.
The person running the scheme did a wonderful job of setting us up in our various departments and making sure everything was going well. However some of the projects were things that maybe had not had that much thought into.
I attend an interesting creative facilitation training day that taught me about new problem solving techniques. Other courses were offered but however could not fit into my schedule.

Future employment prospects with the organisation are very appealing. The are a well organised and structurally sound company that do interesting, cutting edge work while never sacrificing employee welfare for a company gain.
The Culture
There were 11 of us on the scheme and everyone was friendly. We got on well and did many things outside of work such as getting drinks, going shopping and going to the cinema.
ASDA and Aldi were close by and brought down the cost of food. The accommodation was very cheap as well being a student halls a half hour walk away. Only downside as the local pub as it was quite expensive.
The nightlife was fun in a big group. Lots of clubs, excellent bars, however I would not have felt safe in a smaller or all female group due to seeing a fair bit of street violence and not feeling all that safe in the clubs.
Community and social responsibility projects are a great way to get involved with things outside of work. There were also gym classes and networking events.
