The Role
Overall, I enjoyed my time at FDM. I was tasked with an intern project as well as projects for the sales team that I was working as part of. This was good as it meant that I was busy for the large part of my internship. I also learned the importance of time management and having to prioritise which tasks to undertake first.
On the whole, I felt valued by my colleagues. Most of the work that I was tasked with had an impact on the company and were real projects that would be influential. This was positive as it allowed me to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment by undertaking work where I was able to see the results of the time I had put in. There were only a couple of occasions where I felt as if I was being given uninteresting tasks by my colleagues.
In the early weeks of my internship I would say that I was given guidance and a lot of help by my supervisors. However, as time went on I didn't feel I received as much support as I could have. Perhaps this was because I wasn't actually sitting with my team throughout my internship as there was no space at that table. I feel if I was sat at the same table, I perhaps would have received more guidance.
My internship started with the perfect balance of work. For my first 5 weeks I was tasked with both the intern project and work for my team. However, the work I was doing for my team was in regards to an event which happened 5 weeks into my internship. Therefore, following this event I feel as if I could've been busier as I was just doing the work in regards to the intern project.
This was a major highlight of my internship. I was given a great deal of responsibility and the work that I was tasked with was of importance to the company. It was great to know that the work I was doing was actually to benefit the company rather than to just try and fill my time. Particularly the intern project, where FDM will go ahead with some of the proposals that we suggested.
I think that the internship has been great in developing my skills and it will help me beyond my studies. Having the exposure to a professional environment has been really beneficial as its an experience that I haven't otherwise had. Also, I got the chance to attend interviews and have my CV looked at and improved upon. Opportunities like that were great as it showed me the application process from a recruitment point of view and what tips and how I can look to be as good an applicant as possible.
The Company
The atmosphere is great. It is a really friendly office and I have got along with everyone in the office. It's quite a small office which is good because it allowed me to get to know everyone pretty well. We also had some really fun social events such as going to the races!
I would say that my review for this is mixed. In terms of having the intern project in place I feel that this was really well organised and structure. However, I felt that within my departmental team it was not as organised because I didn't have a set plan/project set up for me before I came and rather it was just tasks given to me in the moment.
I would have liked to have had the chance to do some training in their academy. This was mentioned at the start of the internship. However, there was no follow on from this or any further mention.

All the interns are offered roles as brand ambassadors whilst undergoing their final year at university. I have also been offered a fast track role onto the companies graduate programme. Doing the internship is a great route to getting a job offer from the company as well as having the chance to work for them and stay connected whilst being back at university.
The Culture
I would have liked to have seen the other interns more, especially on a social level. We only met with the interns across the UK twice and only managed to have one social event with them. This was really enjoyable however I think it would have been good to have a social event with the other interns before starting the project so that you get to know them a bit better before working with them.
I was living at home so it was really cheap for me and I was able to save money. It is also pretty cheap to go out in Glasgow.
Nightlife in Glasgow is good fun.
Outside of work I would go for drinks most weeks with people from the office. However, outside of this there weren't too many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
