    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Couldn't have been better. Not only did I thoroughly enjoy it throughout my eight weeks, I also feel I learnt so much and developed as a person as a direct result of working with FDM.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • It was an extremely inclusive and sociable environment. The employees were endlessly offering their support to make sure I felt welcome and comfortable working at FDM. They were also very grateful for any work I did for them.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • There were brilliant support networks on offer in the form of line managers and a mentor programme. I settled in so well that I didn't have to make much use of my mentor programme. My line manager was brilliant throughout.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I was settling in things were not that busy, but once I built up our skill set by being shown how to do things it got far busier. They didn't overload me but wanted to push my boundaries in a positive way.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility but never felt isolated. They encouraged me to be as independent as possible but never to shy away from asking for help if I got really stuck. It was about discovering my potential but not feeling overwhelmed.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • It will definitely aid me in my degree and beyond. I learnt so much about time management, project management, analytical skills and got some great visibility about how the business world operates and functions, especially in the IT sector.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a really exciting atmosphere that combined professionalism with a friendly and social environment. There was so much energy and enthusiasm that results in a real thirst to succeed. Everyone respected the boundary between work and play.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organised. They didn't hold my hand throughout my internship and really tested me in a lot of areas, but that is what it is about. I learnt so much about myself and my skills because of the way the internship is structured and organised.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was given the opportunity to do some training weeks in their academy which are normally quite expensive. This exposed me to an alien environment of computing and IT skills that I had never before encountered. This was of great benefit to me.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Because I and the other interns performed so well they put forward a conditional offer for all of us to join their graduate programme provided we passed some standard academy tests. This was really rewarding and encouraging for our post graduate prospects.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The office socialises really well anyway, but given the impeccable summer I experienced during my internship it encouraged even more of a social scene amongst the employees. I also went to two company events during my time which were fantastic.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I either travelled from home or stayed with my sister in London. Travel was expensive getting to and from London and socialising was expensive but that's just London in general I guess. Fortunately it was a paid internship which helped.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • We tended to go to bars or pubs for socialising, but the nightlife in general in my area was fantastic. There is also easy access to surrounding areas such as Clapham or Peckham which offer more excellent nightlife opportunities.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The majority of the opportunities were basic socialising at bars or pubs to enjoy the sun.
