The Role
I really enjoyed my internship here, as large as the bank is and considering its a global bank. There was so much invested in the training with greatly helped to prepare us for the work and interacting with people within the bank and generally. We were encouraged to meet with other teams apart from our team and so that part was really nice too.
My team really made to effort to integrate me into the workings of the team, from the initial meeting set up with the aim of finding our where my interest were and how it can be incorporated to the internships. To being brought in on most of the meetings with some other teams we work with and seeing some of my suggestions and input being implemented made me feel greatly valued.
The support provided during the internship was really extensive, from the buddy-system to the mentor and one to ones with managers and supervisors. I was encouraged to speak about the projects I was involved in, voice concerns and even had meetings with senior members of the teams who explained things around how the business is structured.
There was a fine balance between my extra curricular activities and actual work and projects. I spent time attending meetings, doing actual work items and taking part in extra curricular and even organizing activities within the organization. All these worked towards ensuring I was able to actively add value and maintain an optimum work life balance.
I was given responsibility over certain projects and had to communicate with members of other teams. Initially most of these meeting were in the presence of my manager but over time I would set up meetings and had to go in without my manager because of other meetings. Seeing some of the projects through without excessive input to me showed I was given enough responsibility without overwhelming me.
I feel the major skills I have learned from my time here are not just technical (although, I certainly learned how to use a lot of new technology stacks). Lifelong soft skills such as public speaking, being confident enough to talk about yourself and what you do goes a lot way in how you relate to others both within and outside a work environment. For me, these are skills that would be useful to me anywhere I go.
The Company
Sports and Social Club
Very appealing. It would be a dream to start a career here.
The Culture
Undoubtedly, activities were organized by the bank for the interns in general and also specific line of business events for interns to foster good social relationships within the interns in the bank. Also, some interns set up catch ups with themselves with interns not necessarily from their line of business and this also helped to foster relationships.
Cost of living and socializing were relatively cheap.
Really nice.
Lots of opportunities to volunteer for organizations outside work. Infact, volunteering and being part of employee networks is actively encouraged within the organizations. The organizations takes helping employee maintain optimal work life balance very seriously and they do all these through actively encouraging employees to engage in activities outside the organization as much as possible.
