The Role
As an IBD Summer Intern, you get to work with several teams over 10 weeks, to hone your technical skills and industry knowledge on the desk. The Summer Internship is well-complemented by Learning Sessions and Networking events, so you have the opportunity to meet talented individuals across all seniority levels and business lines. All in all, you gain more responsibility as you progress and develop your skills ; and the bank is here to support you every step of the way with a mentor/buddy scheme. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with talented individuals, who will happily share their knowledge with you. Looking back on the Summer Internship, I can say that I have developed both my soft skills/hard skills and business acumen. I highly recommend applying to this program for the steep learning curve, the international exposure, the amazing people you work with and the ability to have an impact.
From day one, I felt really welcomed at the bank - you get one week of training (accounting, valuation, financial analysis, excel, powerpoint) and many events to discover several areas of the bank. The Mentoring/Buddy scheme was a tremendous help throughout the internship, you can definitely feel the bank investing in your talent and in your success. Individuals from all seniority levels will provide you with sound advice and guidance on how to best succeed in your role and start your career in investment banking. The culture is professional, highly-diverse, open and friendly. Your colleagues will thank you for your work, provide constant feedback on how to improve it/become more efficient - which I really appreciated.
I have received great support from my manager, mentor, buddy and staffer. They were here throughout the internship to give me sound advice and guidance, they made sure I got the exposure I wanted to specific projects and teams. Overall, the structure of this Summer Internship is well-balanced (events/time on the desk/conferences/volunteering), and the HR department is here to answer any questions about your career development at the bank.
I was always involved in a variety of projects - from creating pitchbooks to building financial models - there is always something interesting to get involved with. In IBD you do have to work long hours, but the work-life balance is very good as a Summer Intern as we did not have to leave late at night nor work on weekends.
I have seen myself ramp up during the Summer Internship, as I developed my skills I have been given more responsibility and technical work. I also got the opportunity to work directly with senior directors - it is amazing to hear their perspectives on the industry and to see how they are passionate about their job at the bank. It was a very inspiring summer internship, and my work was valued and recognised by my colleagues.
At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the summer internship is well thought-out. Regardless of your background (if you do not have a degree in Finance or Accouting), the one-week dedicated training will help you understand the key concepts that you will use on the job. At the desk, your colleagues will always take the time to provide you with guidance and clear instructions on the project, give you feedback on what you should keep doing and areas of development. You will learn a lot, both technically and socially - I could not have expected a better experience over the summer. I am really happy with the skills I have developed here and would love to come back for a full-time position. I feel more confident for my last year of MSc in Finance as I am returning back to university next year.
The Company
The atmosphere is professional, yet fairly relaxed, open and fun. The culture is great - the people are here to support you and genuinely interested in getting to know you, they are happy to share their time and advice for your professional development. The teams would organise dinners/afterwork drinks - the Summer went very fast and was really enjoyable.
The Summer Internship is very well structured, from trainings to conferences, a volunteering day and various dinners and networking events - you get the opportunity to meet people from all business lines and seniority levels. The rotational IBD programme gives you the opportunity to experience different teams and industries - which is really enjoyable when you are curious to discover more about investment banking, global markets, technology & security, treasury or operations.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch really invests the Summer Analyst / Associate programme - you get exposure to various areas, senior leadership and talented people willing to share their knowledge and perspectives on the industry. The one-week dedicated training, the conferences, private viewing of art exhibition and networking events organised for summer interns were very interesting and fun.

I would be very excited to join Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a full-time employee. The Summer Internship helps you get a taste of what it is like to work in a fast-paced, challenging, highly impactful environment. Joining as a full-time gives you the opportunity to learn more and contribute to deals that shape the landscape of your industry.
The Culture
The Summer Intern Class was very open and friendly, it was a great opportunity to make new friends and meet talented individuals from countries across the EMEA region.
London is an expensive city, but a great place to work. The people are very talented, energetic and professional, but there are also many places to have fun and relax during the weekends.
St Paul's has a variety of restaurants and bars, if you want to go for afterwork drinks with your team or other interns. It is a very nice area to work in and the location is central.
The Employee Resource Groups (arts, sports, languages etc.) are a great way to gather with like-minded individuals who share the same passion. Volunteering events are happening on a recurring basis, either firm-wide or within your team - there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
