The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Savills, it gave me an insight into the private sector and the range of work that is undertaken by consultants.
I felt that my manager valued the work I was producing as I undertook work that he would otherwise have been completing this meant he had more time to focus on other important tasks.
I was given tasks to undetake that were included in planning applications that were submitted during my placement. This made me feel like the work I was carrying out was valued.
I was relatively busy but I think I could have managed with being designated more tasks as in a real work situation my work load would have been higher.
I was given the responsibility of producing work that was included in the work that clients were paying for.
I believe the skills I learnt have actually aided me in finding a job in planning. After looking for a job for 12 months after finishing my studies I was offered a planning graduate position with a developer within 2 months of completing my placement. I think this was a direct result of the advice my manager gave me with my CV and also having the Savills work placement as work experience.
The Company
The atmosphere was good we also sat with the development team and everyone was very friendly.
The placement was organised well and I knew what was expected of me in terms of working hours.
My manager invested time in me by being willing to answer any questions that I had and gave me advice on how to increase my chances of securing a planning job in the future.
I would relish the opportunity to work for Savills in the future I am going to apply for the graduate scheme this year. I wish I had undertaken the placement during my studies as I would have tried to get on the graduate scheme sooner.
The Culture
It was only 1 month so it was not really enough time to develop relationships with members of staff to interact socially with people.
I was working in the same place as I was living so the cost was minimal.
It is a big city so the nightlife is usually very good.
It was a short term placement.
