The Role
The summer internship programme is a 9-week structured programme which I really enjoyed. Throughout the entire duration of the programme Barclays held many events for interns to get a better understanding of the company as well as meeting more people who works in the company. Throughout my time at Barclays, I get to understand the global scale at which Barclays are operating and
I managed to form a respectful relationship with my colleagues as my colleagues works closely with me throughout my summer internship. This has made me feel like I was a part of the team.
My supervisors are very helpful as we consistently schedule meeting to discuss about my current progress and also provide feedback to them regarding the summer internship. My supervisors are also very friendly and wouldn't mind spending their time to provide more guidance for me to complete my objectives.
As mentioned previously, there were many events and activities planned for interns so you will be sure to be occupied and you would also need to make sure to manage your own time to finish your given objectives.
The objectives given to me have a significant impact to the team as it enhances the work performance which leads to faster product delivery. Therefore it was important for me to complete my objectives during my placement.
By having the opportunity to get to meet senior managers across the bank, I get to learn alot more about what the industry which would prove useful in my future career. The working environment in the company is very supportive, as most employees would support and provide guidance to other employees to continuously learn and improve themselves. Besides that, the technical skills that I developed while completing my objectives are also useful as it is transferable to my degree studies.
The Company
The working atmosphere in my office was quite relaxed and not tense as I was expecting from a bank. They added some interesting decorations throughout the office which helps in making the workplace less rigid and dull.
Overall, the internship was very well structured as it includes an induction programme, plenty of networking events, structured objectives, as well as a farewell event.
The amount of personal training and development provided to interns are significant, whereby we can access online learning sites to access learning content to further develop and learn new skills.

From what I know, there are huge future employment prospects for interns who performed well during the internship. Besides that, the graduate programme also allows successful graduates to apply internally to vacant roles across the bank.
The Culture
Yes, all the summer interns socialized well with each other and it is easy to communicate with each other. This is because we get to meet each other often during lunch break and after work, which helped created a good social scene.
The cost of living is definitely cheaper as compared London. However, as it is not as lively as London, there are less socialising opportunities here.
There isn't any nightlife in the area I worked in as it is relatively far away from the nearest city.
Definitely, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved with activities outside of work such as charity event / volunteering events. It is also very easy to access the website to see if there are any upcoming events.
