About You
I really enjoyed the summer vacation scheme. They got us very involved in real live work which was really exciting and interesting. Everyone was incredibly friendly and pleasant to work with. I had a really fun time getting to know the other vacation schemers as well. It was a great 3 weeks.
Everyone that I did work for in both the department's that I got to sit in, was always very appreciative of any work I did for them. They would always thank me after and were also always very happy to tell me more about the matter, whether that be background or what they themselves are currently working on.
I had a supervisor and buddy in both the seats that I had. When I initially arrived in my seats, they were my first points of contact, but once I'd settled in, I was very comfortable approaching basically anyone in the department for any guidance or insight that was required.
I have learnt a great deal about the departments I worked in but also the legal profession as a whole. It has also given me great insight into the firm itself and the great culture that they foster there for all their employees to work in. It has certainly cemented my ambition to work in the legal profession.
The Company
There were many prearranged networking lunches and presentations scattered throughout the three weeks of the summer vacation scheme. These gave us amny opportunities to meet lawyers outside of the departments we had been assigned to. They also arranged various social events to get to know the other vacation schemers and trainees.
The atmosphere was really great on the summer vacation scheme. Both amongst the other summer vacation schemers but also the general vibe and atmosphere of the Baker McKenzie office. It was always very friendly and supportive and that held true even when it came to the interview stage for the training contracts.
They arranged a variety of different skill development workshops and presentations during our time on the summer vacation scheme. The firm definitely invested in us both professionally and socially, with events organised inside and outside of the office which was really good. I feel like I learnt a great deal from the experience.
I came away from my time on the summer vacation scheme with a great perspective on what I would be like to work there full-time. Having talked to lawyers at different stages of their career I was able to understand how the firm supports and develops their employees every step of the way.
I felt that I was able to come away from the summer vacation scheme with a great appreciation for the culture that Baker McKenzie foster's amongst it's employees. While many firms claim to have no face time culture, this is one firm which definitely doesn't. Everyone also makes a definite effort to make sure that it is always very friendly and pleasant.
After being on the summer vacation scheme, I was able to come from it with a clear idea of my ambitions to continue on and pursue a legal career in the city. Through the many different experiences that I enjoyed at on the summer vacation scheme I was able to get an even better understanding of what it means to be a solicitor.
Everything Else
We were paid for our time on the summer vacation scheme beginning on the second Friday of the scheme for three weeks.
Yes there were many opportunities to network with people both inside and outside of the office.
They were really good and generally ddi not feel forced at all.
Yes they have various sporting and volunteering activities on offer.
I would highly recommend this scheme to anyone who is interested on a legal career.
