The Role
There is an open environment system here where both senior and junior employees are willing to help interns. Most employees are happy to tell me what they do on a daily basis and give me career guidance about how I can succeed in the industry. This, I believe, is the most memorable thing for me as It has opened my eyes to the full breadth of many aspects of the bank.
I worked with fast-paced teams where employees in the teams were usually busy. Despite that, colleagues felt the need to interact with me and assign tasks to me. This made me feel part of the teams and gave me a sense of responsibility to add value to the team. The teamwork in massive.
It was fantastic! Management and my supervisors were interested in the progress of all the interns. The bank assigned us with mentors and buddies as well as line managers which gave me an opportunity to reach out to lots of people when I have questions. Senior networking sessions were organized by HR on regular basis to enable us have interaction with management as well
It was a good balance. I was not too bored or too busy. I was assigned tasks on a daily basis and work on big projects to be presented to the team at the end of my rotation on that desk. The team keeps challenging me to do my best while on the desks
Interns were limited with the type of tasks to do. I felt the responsibility given to me was in line with what interns are expected to do on each team and I was happy about that. I felt part of the team because I was constantly adding value to the team
I have learned lots of skills ranging from interpersonal skills to communication skills to technical skills. I believe the skills I have acquired throughout the internship will assist me everywhere I go - especially the networking skills and communication skills which are key to building successful relationships with people. I acquired the skills from my teams and regular training sessions organised by HR
The Company
I woke up in the morning to go to work with a positive mind-set every day because my teammates were incredible. It was very interesting to talk about the market every morning as interesting political and economic headlines come up. The atmosphere in the office was a friendly one as interns are not scared to approach people at any time.
The overall internship placement was a conscious effort by management because I saw no flaw in the entire process - from application to start date. Everything was very smooth. HR organised firm-wide training for all interns where we had the opportunity to network among ourselves even before the internship started
I believe inasmuch as the firm wants to employ the best talent, it wants to develop the skills and qualities of its interns. I attended training and development programmes throughout the internship which was organised by HR. Those sessions were very regular and helped me to attain most of the soft skills I possess now.
