    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was a fantastic insight into EY, the work and the life of a consultant. I was fortunate enough to visit a client site for 2 weeks, which meant interancting directly with key client stakeholders and having an impact on the work being carried out. Overall, the work was fantastic, the people were great, the company is great.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Through the internship, colleagues were always willing to help, offer advice and feedback on my performance. Moreover, there were colleagues who went out of their way to thank me for the work I did and tell inform me that I did it well. People were always willing to give up their time for my benefit.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My direct managers whilst on engagements offered great support throughout. As well as this, they listened to my requests and when I wanted to take on more challenging talks they let me do so. This really helped my development and learning. Moreover, my councillor was always willing to have a call to chat about goals and feedback.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • To start with, I was not that busy - however this was due to changing client needs and not as a result of poor planning by EY. The latter half of the internship more than made up for the slow start, I was busy very day and doing work that was of value.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was fortunate enough to work on an end to end Internal Audit. As a result I was able to build trust with my colleagues and they allowed me to take ownership of deliverables. These included process flow charts, building test sheets, writing attributes, carrying out tests and concluding. These were being delivered to ten client.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think the experience was full of learning opportunities that provide skills for all areas of study and working life.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The office had a relaxed, yet professional atmosphere. Colleagues were always willing to chat, about work and non-work topics. The office location is fantastic, next to London Bridge and tower bridge - it could not be any better. I would want to work in this office in the future, should the opportunity arise.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • There is a slight disconnect between the internship coordinators and the teams which you are placed in. For example, some teams had presentations to occupy them in their down time but others didn’t. Perhaps this should be made compulsory? But overall, the set up was great and I would reccomend the internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • EY were happy for me to be out on client site so study I could experience life as a consultant. This involved them paying for hire bills, train tickets etc. Most would say this is a standard expenses policy, but it is worth noting that not all companies are happy to invest in interns as EY is.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    National Travel

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Having completed the internship, it has confirmed my thoughts that EY is the company that I want to work for and consulting is what I want to do. The company, the people, the work and the graduate offer are all extremely appealing. I would absolutely accept an offer if it was made available to me.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • There were soncials arranged for us by both the student recruitment team and teh teams we were working in. Both interns and permenant colleagues were willing to socialise in the evenings. This then helped make the office atmosphere even better as people got to know each other, rather than just the work they were doing.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • If I was paying, I would have found it expensive to socialise. However, the arranged events were all paid for by the company. The team socials had an open bar, which was marvellous.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I can’t say I really experienced it that much - but that was my choice

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • EY has many clubs to join so there will be people who share your likes and you will feel at home.
