The Role
I really enjoyed the internship and working with the EY team. The best part was to be able to learn on more detail and depth about the work EY actually does. Sometimes the descriptions on the career website are vague but the internship gave me a clear idea of what type of work I would be doing if I joined.
My colleagues were incredibly friendly and professional throughout my internship. We were quite a diverse group of interns but because we all valued each other and respected each other, we worked well as a team. More than anything, they were a nice group to talk with more comfortably as we were all going through the same process.
Although I was an intern, I felt that my colleagues and managers valued my prescence and work. They worked hard to assign and explain work that I could do. Also, they gave me the responsiblity to execute significant work throught the 6 weeks - this really made me feel part of the team.
This was really depedent on the day and client that I was assigned to. Some days I was kept busy throughout the working day but some days I just didn't have anything to do. However, Ido understand that there is a limited amount of work that I could carry out as an intern. Also, the teams always tried their best to give me work to do.
Considering that I was an intern, I was given significant responsibility. I think this might be because I was at a regional office and the teams that I worked were quite small (4-5 people). I really liked that I was given responsibility because it made me feel valued throughout the internship.
I don't think the skills developed during the internship are directly relevant to my degree studies (maybe Excel skills could come in handy). However, the people skills that I learned by observation would definitely help in building my career after university.
The Company
The office was quite quiet most of the times. This is because most people were out at client sites. However, because I was also at client site I was not in the office for manu days. When I was in the office, the general atmosphere was just a normal atmosphere you would expect at an office
Everything was well organised once the internship started. All the events and timings were communicated in detail and timely manner. Nonetheless, the recruitment process (before the start of the internship) was less well organised and not transparent enough
During the internship, there was no formal training and development. It was more related to the on the job training that I received throughout my working days. I do know however that EY invests a lot in training new graduates.
National Travel
I think the future employment prospects are quite good and I would love to have an offer with them. But at the same time because EY is a huge firm anything can happen.
The Culture
I think there were some socials throughout the internship and I've heard there are more throughout the year but I don't think the office was particularly good with socials.
Because everyone was at different client sites, it was incredibly hard to organise a social event even between the interns. The nature of the job limited the social scene but when we were all at the office we enjoyed each others' company
No real nightlife happened although there were some places that we could go
The internship kept me busy enough throughout the week that activities outside work were hard to do
