The Role
I was lucky enough to be working on a client site right from the beginning which was a really amazing experience for me. the work itself was very varied and I was managed to do something different most days which kept it really interesting. My team were really friendly and made sure I understood what I was doing and why I was doing it which was a very useful learning experience. There was enough work but I definitely achieved a good work life balance so couldn’t have asked for anything more in this regard.
As I was working on a small team, the work I was doing was essential to the success of my team. This meant I had to deliver on the work I was achieving and I really did feel like and integral and essential part of the team. I felt extremely valued the whole way through
My team were very good at explaining things when I did not understand or even for more general questions about the industry as a whole. The same can be said of more senior management who were equally open to answering questions and making time to explain things to me when needed
I was very busy at the start of the internship when I was working with a client - this meant 9-6 on average most days but this tended to go very quickly as I was busy the whole time. Towards the end of the internship there was less work to do so I wasn’t as busy but it was good to have that contrast and to have more time to read about EY generally and the industry.
I was given a lot of responsibility as my team was small and they didn’t have time to complete everything themselves. My work was always checked but after a few weeks, I was put in charge of several smaller tasks and with that came a reasonable amount of responsibility (for an internship)
As my degree has nothing to do with assurance or financial services I doubt it will have much use in that respect. However, I am sure what I learn will prove very useful career-wise and more generally later in life and especially if I get the chance to join EY after university
The Company
The atmosphere was really good. It was clear people were working hard and were focused but at the same time it didn’t feel like a library where you couldn’t chat or walk around. Everyone was extremely friendly and always made tome to talk to me or ask me how I was getting on
The organisation was fantastic. The programme ran really well and included lots of activities I wasn’t expecting from an internship. We had two full day socials during the six weeks and several mid week events after work. Everything was very well communicated and from arriving in the office I was very clear what I needed to do and where I needed to go straight away
The company invested a fair amount of time in me as I was fortunate enough to shadow some senior team members as well as have informal chats with the about their careers and the industry. Everyone was always willing to talk to me/help me when needed and there were online learning resources available as well

Future employment prospects are highly appealing. The conversion rate from internship to graduate job is fairly high relative to other financial services companies and when on the graduate scheme the support and education provided is immense. The progression after that is also well structured and clear and it seems like a great place to start a career
The Culture
This is difficult to comment on as I was not in the office for most of my internship, however from listening to other interns this was generally really good and often they went for drinks/ a meal together. On my team when we finished our assignment we went out for drinks together
London is not cheap but there were some good options for socialising such as a bar in the EY building! I lived at home for the internship, which although meant a long commute, meant I was able to save some money as rent in London can be very expensive. If you are lucky some of the more senior members will pay for some drinks for you which always helps!
I don’t think Canary Wharf is known for its night life but of course there are lots of other options in London. There are however lots of options for lunch and for drinks after work as well as events which take place quite often such as concerts and even beach volleyball tournaments!
Whilst on the internship there weren’t many opportunities but I know this wouldn’t be the case with a full time job. Only being there for 6 weeks means it was hard to get involved in other things, especially considering a lot of people were away over the summer who ran the sports teams/ other clubs
