The Role
By the end of the internship I found the people were really friendly and the work was interesting and applicable
There were a few individuals that found our work useful and continuously interacted with us as if we were equal. There were however some colleagues who did not communicate or engage with us in any way.
My counsellor took care of me and made my issues her own. The buddies and a few other colleagues were always helpful and available to guide us with any questions
The workload came in swings there was either a lot of work to do or no work to do and you’d have to go out and find work from people, being proactive helps.
Our work mostly consisted of ad hoc tasks for projects which only contributed to a small part of the project, we were given responsibility but it was always reviewed and mostly edited if it didn’t meet their standards
The theory behind the work I did was directly relevant to my degree, being able to apply the technical terms and theory makes it more applicable.
The Company
Due to the variety of age groups and positions within the team the atmosphere varied, most interactions happened with younger colleagues as they were more willing to talk to you. More senior colleagues often ignored you unless you worked with them on a project
The structure of the internship made it useful to learn about the work the team did and it was motivating to actually contribute to the work they were doing rather than imitating the work.
Individuals would take the time out to teach me the theory or to explain what they were doing which really contributed to my training and understanding the work. The feedback reviews were a useful indication of how to improve. Some pieces of work they would just let you try the work first which was useful through the development
Subsidised Canteen
The company is in a great position to be an attractive employer.
The Culture
Students made the effort to continuously socialise and interact which made learning about different departments useful.
Socialising wasn’t very frequent with the team and large efforts would have to be put in to get everyone together.
On the occasions when we socialised there was plenty of options of where to go and what to do
Due to the short nature of the internship you don’t really get time to get involved with any other activities
