The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed the work I undertook on the summer internship programme at EY. The work was both diverse and challenging, allowing me to develop a range of skills and use various pieces of software. Being in tax, I was at first concerned that it would be too technical - however, the work tended to be easy to pick up and different day-to-day.
I felt extremely valued by my team during this programme. They were truly invested in my development and were always forthcoming with answers to any questions I had. I also found that many different people within the team wanted to utilise me, meaning that I managed to interact with a wide variety of people.
My counsellor was excellent, pre-preparing work for me so that I could hit the ground running as soon as I started. He was very engaged with my development and was always checking how I was getting on. The senior management were also just as interested in my internship experience, working directly with me and helping me to develop further.
The first couple of weeks were not particularly busy as I had to begin with training and understanding the role of our team. However, as time progressed, I really felt like a valued member of the team and was given urgent, client work on almost a daily basis.
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility during the internship. At first, the majority of my work was internal or helping with client work. However, by the end, I was working directly with clients, producing slide decks and tax information to their teams.
Though the tax knowledge may not necessarily help with my history degree, the analytical skills I’ve developed and communication skills (both with the team and clients) will certainly help, allowing me to more clearly enunciate my ideas and produce more coherent arguments.
The Company
The office was more friendly than I ever imagined and was not the stereotypical ‘corporate’ environment. Everyone was approachable and it was a nice mixture between relaxed and focused.
The internship was very well organised. I knew what to expect before entering the office thanks to the communication from the internship team, and regular social events allowed us to stay in touch with other interns.
A huge amount! In just six weeks, I feel that I have learnt an unbelievable amount, both in online training courses and in terms of the work I was completing.

Company Parties/Events
I would love to receive a graduate offer from EY following this programme. It was engaging and interesting and the team I was working in seems a good fit for me.
The Culture
The internship team organised some events with the other interns which were a great way to catch up. My team itself also went out for lunches regularly and sometimes drinks after work. There really is a great work-life balance.
Socialising in the London Bridge area was expensive but there were also deals to be found! I commutes into London so cannot comment on living costs.
There was an active nightlife in our area as it’s right in the middle of the city.
As the London Bridge office is in the centre of London, things to do were never far away.
