The Role
I really enjoyed the insight I got into GPS audit and loved working with the people at EY Cambridge. I previously knew very little about audit, so I enjoyed learning much more about this as well as other service lines
I felt like everyone made an effort to make me feel welcome, which helped me to settle into the team really quickly.
I was on a client site with my manager and counsellor everyday for 3.5 weeks, which meant I had a lot of 1-1 feedback and guidance
It was GPS busy season during my internship so I had plenty of work to do for the first 4-5 weeks. The final week, less so but this was expected.
I was doing real client work for the audit, and although this all had to be reviewed, a great deal of the final submissions of work were done by myself
The skills I’ve learned won’t necessarily translate to my degree as it isn’t relevant to audit. However, in the future, my use and knowledge of excel, as well as growing confidence in client interactions will definitely aid me
The Company
I wasn’t in the office much at all, but when I was it felt like a very productive but still relaxed atmosphere, and was very conducive to efficient working. The social “break out” area was also really nice for having breaks and lunch, and being able to chat more socially with others
I felt it was very well organised, and that I always knew where I would be going and doing once I had started. However, what I would have appreciated was information about the extent to which audit interns would be travelling to client sites, as I was unaware of this beforehand
I felt that the regular feedback I was receiving was really good in terms of my own personal development, and EY’s focus on asking for and giving feedback shows how much they invest in their employees development
Flexi Time
National Travel
they are quite appealing, although I have requested to move locations. But in terms of the kind of work I would be doing, this is appealing to me (corporate audit)
The Culture
Because at Cambridge there were only 6 interns and we were usually on client sites, there was little opportunity for us to socialise. Also because of where the office is placed, it is more difficult to go somewhere after work than in a London, for example.
I lived at home during my internship so N/A
I didn’t experience any nightlife in Cambridge
I was invited to a GPS end of busy season family day, which was really enjoyable, but if I hadn’t had this there wouldn’t have been any opportunities
