The Role
I loved working at EY because the atmosphere was always lovely. All the people are friendly and welcoming to all new interns coming in. I've met great people who I know I can rely on if I do receive an offer for a grad role. I would definitely recommend it.
People make you feel like you're worthy, rather than just a resource. I felt like an important member of the team working on important documents, that will have an impact on the overall engagement. I was always given recognition for all the work I've done which is a great feeling.
As I've been at EY for three summer internships now, the network I've developed has really helped me. I've met several managers, senior managers and partners, all of whom were greatly helpful and always gave insightful feedback on all of the work I've done for them over the 6 weeks.
I was always given work to do. Sometimes when I didn't have any work for the client I was working on, I was able to reach out to others to try and find something do because of the network I've developed over the past few summers that I've been here.
I always felt like I was doing important work, which was valued to the team. I was given responsibility and was allowed to work independently, which was great as I wasn't micromanaged as an intern. I was brought into client meetings where I was given responsibility too, great experience overall.
I don't believe the skills will apply to me directly at university, I think the skills I've learnt are more soft skills rather than technical knowledge. Going into the world of work, it's given me the confidence to speak to people who are way above my rank, which I will always value.
The Company
The office plan is very open, you could be sitting next to an associate one day and a partner the next day as EY operates under a hotdesking system. This was great and it allowed me the freedom to speak to people I may not otherwise have any interactions with.
At times I was sitting idly so I went on a search for my own work elsewhere with other teams. Maybe this should be something in control of the SIP team, elsewise it was a great experience. The organisation by the SIP team to have check ins with us was invaluable.
We were given the ability to do web based learnings and udemy courses which was very helpful. I was able to develop my skills and learn about thugs I may not have otherwise been given the chance to. Lots of opportunities for interns to develop new skills and learn about things.
Counsellors are available to everyone to help in career progression. I was given great insights by my team members and counsellor about how to progress within EY. I've seen many people go from ACP1 to senior. The career progression is great and the organisation is very flat. The counsellors are very helpful.
The Culture
Interns went out for drinks often. There are many places nearby that offer social events and even smaller events like a small mini golf course. The bar in EY is very fairly priced too which was nice for interns to have a few drinks after work with some members of the team.
Canary wharf, so can't have expected it to be very cheap but it was all fairly priced. Skyscape was very fairly priced and in the office so very convenient to get to, which was great. It was open to good times which made it easy for me to get to.
Didn't usually stay around in the office for that long, however I did enjoy the places nearby. Not sure there are many places for a great nightlife in Canary wharf, as it's a very densely populated area with businesses and big firms. Didn't get to enjoy much of a great nightlife.
