    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed the summer internship. I had the opportunity to really learn about my area from employees who were very friendly and welcoming. The work I was given was also meaningful and fully explained. We were also given the opportunity to socalise with the other interns, who were very friendly, and I had lunch with them everyday.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The EY employees were very friendly and helpful. They really made me feel welcome and I felt comfortable asking for work and feedback throughout. They were also always happy to answer my questions about work and more general topics. I was given a buddy and a counselor to help me throughout my internship and they really helped me to find out additional information about the placement.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The work was always clearly explained, either over email or in person, and there was always the opportunity to ask questions throughout the work piece. Feedback was also given which demonstrated points of development throughout the internship. Everyone was also willing to give advice on applications and the offer process which was very useful.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It altered from day to day and the team I was sitting with. A lot of the teams were in their "quiet season" and therefore did not have as much work to assign, however, each team did manage to produce work for me to complete. I was also given a few longer pieces of work which took multiple days to complete.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • The work that I was given was all for real projects. I often had to source important and urgent information through emails or calls and I analysed data that was subsequently used for real projects. I was also responsible for taking notes throughout meetings. I was given more responsibility that I have experienced at other companies.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • There was a lot of general training on topics such as business writing and presentation skills that was very useful and relevant to any work or degree. I also had the ability to develop these skills as I set some as targets and received feedback on my performance and development throughout.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was very friendly. Many of the teams interacted with one another, socially and for work, which meant that there was quite a casual and interactive atmosphere. There are also no assigned desks, assigned for partners, which meant that you sat somewhere new each day and this allowed me to meet new people everyday which was very beneficial.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The placement happened on a rotational basis- I spent approximately 1 week with each team within the sector. This was very well organised and it was clear who the intern coordinator (who was responsible for welcoming you, introducing you to the team and helping you find work) was. The overall internship was also very well organised and I always knew what was happening.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. The internship really allowed me to understand what it would be like to work at EY, in terms of culture, lifestyle and work. The firm is very friendly and welcoming and provides excellent training at the start of the graduate programme to help with exams. I have also had the process of receiving an offer after the internship made clear.

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The interns were all very friendly. I had lunch with a group of them everyday and many met in the canteen or out in the park to watch the sports. The was also the opportunity to socialise with the other interns every night and this really allowed interns from different sectors to meet.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was standard London prices so quite high a cost as public transport adds up, the food and drink is a lot higher priced and housing is more expensive. Usually companies pay a higher salary to those in London to compensate for this and EY finished our day at 5 rather than 5:30 to allow for travel time.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • 4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • The internship is not really long enough to join a society but there is a large range offered. I did take advantage of the corporate tickets to an art gallery. EY sponsors many galleries / museums and so one can get free tickets for exhibitions through the Arts Club. This was a lovely benefit and it made a great day out!
