The Role
I really enjoyed it and did not expect to love banking as much I now do!
Everyone was really supportive and made me feel included.
Everyone was very supportive and despite having no knowledge of banking in the beginning, they helped me through teaching and answering all of my questions and now I have a much greater understanding.
Fairly busy, depending on the tasks that needed doing. But I had a project to occupy me when there wasn't much work for me to do in the branch.
I feel the level of responsibility I was given was fair based on the fact that my level of knowledge about banking when I arrived was minimal, therefore I don't think it could be expected of me to have a lot of responsibility. However, once taught how to complete a task, I was left to do it on my own and only ask for help when necessary and in that I had a lot of responsibility.
I have learnt to be more confident in my decision making something encouraged by the Handelsbanken culture. I have gained a wider understanding about the topics involved and feel I have learnt a lot in my 8 weeks.
The Company
The general atmosphere was positive, everyone is very friendly and welcoming and were keen to involve me in their conversations.
The internship was organised well, the only thing I think could be improved is the organisation of the intern project as everyone believed to have heard different things about whether we should work as a group of 15 or split into smaller groups. Organising a group of 15 is extremely difficult, especially when trying to take in every single person's opinion.
I feel my branch invested a lot of time in teaching me about everything they do. They made an effort to include me in meetings and talk me through their work as they did it. I felt very supported and have gained a lot of skills to take away with me.
It is made clear that Handelsbanken use the internship as a way of hopefully gaining new employees. With this in mind, the future employment aspects are appealing.
The Culture
There have been opportunities to socialise with other interns and this was encouraged through the intern project.
I lived at home and in terms of socialising, whilst food and drink can be expensive in the city centre, they were nevertheless reasonably priced.
I believe it is good, but this isn't a priority of mine so I cannot really comment.
I had the chance to go for a few meals with the people in my branch which made me feel included and I also got the chance to spend time with people in other branches also which emphasised this inclusivity.
