The Role
Great all rounded experience in terms of both industry knowledge, learning specific to my field, engagement with the company and it's culture, social aspects and adding value to the wider community through fund-raising and awareness events
Unlike school, uni, the general education system and day to day life, there was no hierarchy system at Barclays based on age. It was fantastic to have older generations speak to me with the same amount of respect and value to my opinions that they'd speak to each other with - especially as I clearly have not had as much experience as them.
I was given a great amount of guidance - given a structured performance pack was especially helpful here
Very busy! there was always something to do which was fantastic - it was a balance between set projects with due dates and stakeholders, to self assigned projects and personal objectives.
The responsibility given to me was far greater than I imagined, it was challenging learning the ropes at the same time as controlling them but this challenge was great and really increased my confidence. It also meant the respect amongst colleagues was far greater than if I was completing work with little value.
The internship is a great learning curb about yourself - you learn what you want out of a job/ company/ career, perhaps what you don't want, your strengths, your weaknesses etc. This can really help to guide you when returning to your final year of your degree programme and help you to make the right choices career-wise as well as align to a path you think you will excel in
The Company
Very positive, a great range of activities constantly occurring such as free kit Kats to remind us to 'take a break', table football to have a kick around with at lunch on a rainy day, lots of congratulating others on new milestones and achievements, both inside of work and out.
Very well organised, the structure was fantastic. There was definitely varying degrees of structure between the team I was in and the teams my fellow interns were in. however, I do think the structure was just right, too much would have been too rigid and not allowed flexibility per team or individual, and too little would have left people feeling a little lost.
the company did as much as they could to help me achieve the maximum I could out of my 9 weeks here. It was fantastic to see other people giving me so much support to help me to grow, and I couldn't have asked for more in this respect. Would definitely recommend,
Flexi Time

Especially from people already in the organisation. Some had stuck around for 30/40 years!
The Culture
The social scene and inclusion if you wanted to get on board with anything was great. If you needed an evening chilling out with colleagues, there was always one waiting for you not far away
Very expensive but this was as expected, not only is it London but also an area where the majority of Londons wealthiest residents work.
You'd usually have to leave the area if you want anything other than a pricey bar or pub
Loads! sky diving, 100km cycle, drinks and social events, diversity events like pub quizzes etc, the list was endless,.
