    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was very informative as I had very little idea as to what the work would involve. I did various pieces of work from audit reviews, to admin to drafting client emails for advisory roles. I had some issues involving partner shadowing as the majority were too busy to meet me.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I got along with the majority of my office team very well. I did have times of awkwardness related to them being too busy to answer certain questions. Additionally, I hade to commute to Glasgow a few times and I found that it took me significantly longer to interstate with the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My managers were always available and so were my seniors. They kept me busy with interesting pieces of work and were really helpful when it came to questions that I may have in relation to the piece of work and more general inquiries as well. Again the only issues I had were in regards to partners and struggles in getting them to be available to answer questions.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • It varied significantly. For my first 2 weeks I had to constantly ask for work and resulted in doing general admin and only learning. This was due to the office being quite busy and many senior members being on holiday. However, for the rest of the period and particularly my last week I was very busy and working on multiple pieces at one.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was not assigned many pieces that I was solely responsible to due to the nature of my service line and the clients that I was involved with. However, I was left to write up many advisory pieces for clients on my own with only stylistic edits done by my seniors before being sent.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe that I now have a much greater appreciation of how to interact with clients, what my degree can be working towards, how to structure and translate pieces for advise for those with a variety of backgrounds correctly. Additionally I had to become more confident in my decisions and public speaking.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I love the office I was mainly based at it was filled with brilliant people and the atmosphere was always very chatty and friendly. However, when things got busy I found it very difficult to ask my team members questions as I found it too awkward given the more intense atmosphere.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was very well set up and from the very beginning there were things in place for me and everyone knew I was coming. Additionally there was harder work involved as people who were originally going to be my buddy and counsellor had unforeseen complications but I did not realise till much later due to how well that adapted.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I do not think that currently I was invested much in as there was very little they had time and could actually show me due to issues with IT and people being busy. However, if I was to be hired I got the impression that I would be invested in extensively.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • It seems brilliant group and people and very interesting work that I would love to develop into. furthermore the promotion possibilities seems great and very clearly laid out so the idea of having a prosperous future from their career plan was very pleasant to discover. If I get offered the role I would love to join.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I got on brilliantly with the younger members of my team and my fellow interns. We often went out for lunch, went to socials afterwards and went to pubs and other events together. Additionally I believe I have made some really good friends who I will remain in contact with regardless.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I found it to be very expensive as despite being treated a few times the numerous events and the rent that I had to pay as I was not in a city in which I study or reside in normally led to it being very expensive and the salary I earned does help but I will have very little money left over.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Very good I enjoyed how our night are but there are so many pubs and great people. However it was a lot of effort as there were many tourists about. The fringe was fun but chaotic and disruptive. I did enjoy the nights with people from work and friends form uni it was just a bit expensive.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I did not have the time or the knowledge of such things. I was very busy and tired from work and often due to the sometimes extended commute I had very little time. Additionally I did not know about many extra events aside from work ones and I am not sure if I would have time to participate.
