The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship from start to finish. Student recruitment guided me well into my internship and the steps after finishing. I felt integrated into my service line and built good relationships with the rest of my team. I was given a very varied experience and from most tasks, constructive feedback.
I felt very valued by my colleagues in my service line. At the start I was made to feel at ease and comfortable in a new environment. I was introduced to each member of the team so was familiar with colleagues from day 1. From this it was easy to approach colleagues with any questions or issues that I might have had
I was given excellent support and guidance by management and supervisors. For example, prior to client meetings I was given an agenda and a briefing of what will happen in the meeting. If I was stuck on a task, colleagues had the time to take me through it and support me thoroughly if needed.
The workload was very mixed. I understand as an intern that there’s only so much work I can do! At points I was very busy which was a bit of a challenge but I enjoyed it. At other times I had very little if any work even after asking around for it. Only some days were tedious in this way.
I feel I was given a lot of responsibility. In a certain project I felt like an integrated member of the team, playing active roles in workshops and updating vital documentation. I always had management check my work which was useful, but the responsibility I was given I feel gave me a better experience and enabled me to feel more valued by colleagues.
I think having experience of a professional workplace alone is such valuable experience to take forward for the rest of any persons career. To have this so early has been fantastic for me. Also to get an insight and understanding into the service line role and EYs services as a whole is something great to take forward
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was friendly and people were sat in a way that I feel I could approach them. There were clear divides in service line so I didn’t get to interact with many people doing different things but I expected that. The atmosphere made it easy to have friendly conversation as well as have breaks.
My internship was very well organised. The student recruitment team had two days dedicated to induction before starting in the office with a detailed itinerary. My counsellor in the office had penned a number of meetings with clients and shadow days in my calendar far in advance from me actually starting the internship.
The company provided me with a laptop, headset to make calls and appropriate stationary. There was a extensive IT induction which really helped me to get associated with processes I would conduct most days in the office. There were also a number of mandatory webinars I completed with important information regarding bribery etc

Future employment prospects with EY are incredibly appealing after having 6 weeks here. I’m still to know the outcome from my feedback but would be very pleased to be offered a job here and it would be a prospect that I would seriously consider taking on after finishing uni studies.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene amongst the other interns in the office. We would have our lunches together in the office and have arranged to have evening food together. This was arranged independently between ourselves. I feel I got on really well with the group of interns I was with and will keep in touch in the future.
The cost of living in Glasgow is good apart from the price of rent that I’ve been paying. Nothing was too expensive when it came to socialising and there was a variety of food and drinks available at a fair price which made socialising accessible with other colleagues and interns.
As a student in Glasgow I’m familiar with the nightlife. There’s a big variety of clubs and bars available although I didn’t have much time for experiencing the nightlife over the course of the six weeks here! I think that having a full time job restricts the amount of nightlife experience you can have!
There was a day supporting a community centre organised by the student recruitment team but not much organised outside of work hours over the internship.
