The Role
Fantastic internship. The teams all made an effort to help us settle in and get the most out of this experience. The people were extremely pleasant and really value the work that we do was interns as opposed to being a distraction. Only problem was that I was put in a team based in London so when I was in my home office (Manchester) I was on my own.
I was extremely valued by my colleagues and this was a pleasant surprise. We were given a lot of responsibility along the way and we felt like the work we did was helping the team and client. Additionally, all of the staff are lovely and go out of their way to make us feel like part of the EY family
Lots of support. We were each given a buddy, a counsellor, a line manager and a cohort lead so there were plenty of outlets to receive advice and help. They made us feel welcome to ask questions and put aside plenty of time to help us. They really helped us get the most out of our time
Generally I was very busy (in a good way), especially when I down in London working with the rest of the team. However, when I was in Manchester I had much less to do and communicating with the team was more difficult. Also, on the last week I had less to do
I was given lots of responsibility, which I was happy with. This means there is more pressure, but being thrown into the deep end is the best way to learn and helped us develop knowledge and skill. I ended up producing work that went directly to the client in the final report, which is rewarding and challenging
The general working skills will help me whichever future I go into. The knowledge I picked up has no relation to my degree (computer science) however, but that is exciting in its own way. Communication, Microsoft office and teamwork skills have been the most important skill developments that I have made
The Company
The atmosphere was extremely pleasant in Manchester! The people were lovely, the offices were bright, and talking was encouraged as long as it was focused on the work and collaboration. There was a nice break area to have a coffee and catch up with your buddy / counsellor too, which was nice
The internship was organised extremely well! The first couple of days were layed out perfectly to help us settle in and network, and also to learn what was expected of us. My only criticism was that my internship involved lots of travel to and from london, which is fine, but I wasn’t made aware of this until I arrived, and this could put some people off
The firm invested a lot of time in me to make sure I developed. As an inexperienced intern, I expected to ‘get in the way’ a little bit, but I was never made to feel like this and everyone went extremely out of their way to coach me and help me develop

The prospects within EY are fantastic. There is a very clear career progression ahead of the graduate scheme, and this is exciting. Spending time with other graduates and seeing how much they enjoy it is very encouraging, and having the partners sitting nearby is great, being able to mix with them is an experience
The Culture
Yes, the social scene was much better than I imagined! The team went out for food quite regularly and there were a few events organised for networking with the other interns. I also got invited to a graduate social which was a great experience to meet people in a casual environment
Manchester is relatively cheap if you go to the right places. Lunch was relatively cheap too, and nothing more than I expected. When I was working in London, however, things were very expensive and I wasn’t expecting to spend that much time there. But, as things were expensed when I was there, it was no problem
I’m not 100% sure what the nightlife was like in Manchester and London in terms of clubbing. However, we spent a lot of time in restaurants and bars and the atmosphere here was very good. The big cities in England are fantastic in terms of their night life experience .
I believe, with EY, there were a lot of experiences we could be a part of outside of work such as football, or a startup group. However, these were never really explained to us properly or pushed. I hope, if we join full time, that these will be made more accessible to us
