The Role
I had a wide range of exposure to various clients as well as really good support from my team throughout the internship. I feel that the people made the job even better than it would be in another organisation and the chance to work on publicly listed and private entities really gave good insight into how the business works.
The colleagues during my internship were not only lovely but also did an amazing job at making me feel like I am a part of the office. I was assigned meaningful tasks and was guided throughout. Once I grasped something, my colleagues had the faith in me to go and execute things on my own as well as appreciated my contributions to the projects we undertook.
I had an absolutely amazing counsellor who gave me really good support and advice in order to be successful at the internsip. Apart from my counsellor, the organisation's management is absolutely amazing and have been approachable at all times despite how occupied they may be. The structure is quite flat and the support provided from start to finish is really nice.
My days were busy when I was assigned versus quiet when I wasn't. However, I always had things to do and being someone who is task oriented and easily bored when sitting idle, I felt that my time at EY was a good one and that the balance between being busy but not too busy to have a life outside of work was met almost perfectly.
I cannot speak for the experience of others but I can say that I was handed a good amount of responsibility and that I appreciated the faith shown in me by my colleagues, managers, and partners. I was handed responsibilities that I felt I wouldn't have gotten at any of the other big 4 as well as the opportunity to sit in massive meetings. I was always engaged and involved in a majority of the things I did. It was quite rewarding to see such trust so early on.
I learned some immensely practical skills on the job but the internship as a whole gives an individual focus and perspective on what you're working towards and allows you to critically evaluate whether this job is for you. Once you have that figured out, the sense of direction is more important than any technical skills you learn. The skills I learned will be some that I feel will be immensely useful even as I push on further in my career thanks to the early nature of my exposure.
The Company
I'm only saying 8 because sometimes the office was empty but that's because it wasn't a heavy audit period and the ones that were around were assigned. However, when we were in the office productivity was amazing and only enhanced by the fact that everyone knew each other and got along so well. There was a genuine family feel and we all cared about each other and that kind of environment at work is priceless.
Apart from a few initial hitches, everything was sorted out very smoothly by the student recruitment team and I feel that they really persevered to make this the best experience possible for us. The exposure and the variety of assignments I had meant that I got as much as I could out of my time here at EY.
I feel like the organisation has a really healthy structure of aiding those who are new or unfamiliar with tasks. It doesn't matter who it is, everyone is willing to help. I've been helped on tasks and trained by graduates and management partners alike and the feedback received serves as a purpose to improve and is always constructive. I travelled a lot, was aided on all my clients and was always involved despite the potential inconvenience to someone else. The firm cares about its interns.

I haven't heard as to whether I'll get an offer yet but if I do I would be really keen to take it. I feel that the organisation is the right place for me and the culture is not just a catch phrase. These are genuinely some of the most intelligent and driven people that I have met who have also embraced the inclusive and supportive culture.
The Culture
We all got along so well all across our region. Even though due to the nature of the job we didn't meet as much as I would like, whenever we met we had an absolutely lovely time. There is not a single individual I didn't get along with from the Yorkshire region and they were so lovely to interact with. You can tell the recruitment process works.
Living in Hull, I felt it was highly economical to socialise and go out. It was a good location however it was hard to find good places to go out too. However, cost of living and travel was reasonable. The only issue lies in the public transport because it is very inconsistent.
Hull is not the heart of the party and for a good social scene I feel you'd have to go to Leeds. I'm not entirely sure whether Hull will be a party scene but the city is growing which means on the future this review will be outdated to a certain extent.
Due to the nature of the office, there are numerous opportunities for getting involved. The people are lovely and will help you settle in and show you around.
