The Role
Enjoyed how caring everyone is, and how they really valued your learning throughout the whole internship period. The seats in the office are not fixed, so you could be just sitting next to a Partner, and I got a good chat with a Partner just on the first week. I was involved in two engagements so I got to experience what’s like to be an auditor.
Everyone in the office value and appreciate you, no matter which ranks they’re in. Even partners or managers would offer to bring you drinks if they’re getting one and sitting near to you. I could talk to anyone in office and they’re willing to teach me even though they’re not my senior or team in charge.
Everyone from associate, senior, counsellor and even managers ensured that I got the support I need and they’re genuinely happy that I was doing well! Not only guidance on work, there’s also help being offered to make life easier, like picking me up from train station every morning to client place instead of waiting and taking a bus plus 15 mins walk
During the one week when I had no engagement i was slightly free. But I got to know we could access udemy for free from my colleague, so it’s a great period for me to watch online videos and learning technical skills like excel or soft skills like being a radical candid. When I was in engaging I still got to get back at 5pm, so that’s great!
As a new joiner I was being guided throughout, but there were instances where my senior gave me tougher workbooks i.e. workbooks with harder problems and let me try. It was a great experience that I eventually sorted it out by communicating with clients and checking through the information we had so far. In short, there may be no high expectation as everyone understand we’re still fresh, so it’s up to us whether we want to take up the responsibility to get the task done well.
There isn’t much training being given, its right down to the job. What I would say is that it gives us a good exposure of skills needed and we could develop it over the years. It would be great if all the resources could be shared with all interns, e.g. access to the udemy, so we could develop our skills whenever we’re free. Pdf documents such as guide for beginners could be distributed with all interns on intern sharepoint as well
The Company
Socials, fun, warm, supportive
First week was pretty free for most of the interns, training could be done on the first week after induction. Training could include basic knowledge on acc (so those who’re not with accounting background could understand better for upcoming 6 weeks), distributions of studying material or websites that we could use for self learning could be shared at the beginning of the internship. But overall I like how everyone got at less than an engagement
Refer to previous comments :) Addition point, we could definitely see the effort on how the firm wants us to get to client site and feel the real world experience which is great. We got new laptops, headphones etc as interns. I was shocked by how generous they’re to interns. But that definitely helps a lot (no laptop lagging, blur sound over calls etc)
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Yet to hear the results, just finished the internship
The Culture
I am living in London but chose Manchester in my first year (I went to spring insights) due to some personal matters so don’t know the place well enough to comment. Cost of living is slightly cheaper in Manchester than in London (food cost is about the same). But commenting on the area of the office instead of the state, the new office is a nice location eith access to entertainment, food, pharmacy etc
