The Role
I enjoyed my experience at EY very much. I was working within the Restructuring team in Manchester, all of my colleagues were very welcoming and made an effort to give tasks to do where possible. The work itself was interesting and I liked learning about the different aspects that are involved in that line of work
At the begining of my placement my buddy [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] introduced me to most of the team individually. And I got to know a lot of the people by chatting informally whilst getting coffee. There was also a number of social event scheduled that I attended this was a great opportunity to get to know people out of work.
My buddy [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was my first port of call when I needed any advice, but also I felt like I could ask any of my colleagues a question if I needed to. They were all very happy to answer questions and coach me through the more difficult tasks I had to complete.
This was perhaps one of the only negative aspects of my internship. There were times when I didn’t have an awful lot of work to do, this was mainly because I didn’t have security clearance to compete certain things or because my senior colleagues were very busy with their own work.
I really felt like I had some responsibility during my internship, to begin with there wasn’t much but as the weeks went on I was phoning clients and updating the master schedules with bank details. I was also allowed to sit in on important conference calls and meetings which made me feel valued.
Whilst my degree and internship weren’t particularly integrated, I developed a lot of people skills and time management skills. I learnt how to prioritise tasks better and communicate with colleagues within a business environment. I also learned a lot about using excel and other programs more efficiently which will definitely come in handy at university.
The Company
Whilst everyone in the office had lots of important work to get on with there was always time for a quick chat about what we got up to at the weekend. There was also time to chat over lunch and when we did coffee runs to the break out area. Everyone was really welcoming.
The entire process of the 6 week internship was very well organised. From the induction in the beginning to the final event, there was also chances to meet up with the other interns throughout such as a pizza evening and a partner breakfast. The student recruitment team did a very good job at organising events.
There wasn’t any particular formal training as the internship was only for 6 weeks. There was an initial IT training session but the training was left up to the specific sub departments, this wasn’t really an issue and the buddy was able to coach through the specific tasks that were required of you.

The future employment opportunities are excellent. After a successful placement you can be offered a place on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
There was a very good social scene, at a lot of different levels. From socialising with the other interns, to a team away day where we went hovercrafting and a team meal, to the Manchester office summer party. The talent team went to a lot of effort to make sure everyone felt included.
Manchester is quite a cheap area as most places are in the north. There were plenty of chances to spend a lot of money but also at the same time there were places which were cheap and cheerful. You can really decide how much you want to spend in the Manchester area.
As I was working the Manchester area there was a lot of nightlife opportunities to get involved in. The World Cup was on whilst I was working so there was a good buzz around the city at the time. There are a lot of bars and clubs in the area that are very inclusive.
There were loads of opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work.
