    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I have really enjoyed my time here in Barclays. Very well-organized internship with lots of opportunity to meet new people and hear from senior colleagues. Everyone care about the company values which make a great place to work in.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues are very nice with me. Whenever I had something to ask, they were very happy to answer my query. I felt like I was part of the team since ages. A very warm welcome.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • They are always happy to help me with queries. This made me more confident in asking questions. It is important to ask a lot of questions as this shows that you are very interested in the role. However, it is important to properly manage your time with the supervisors as they are very busy with their work.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • At the beginning of the internship, the manager gives you the objectives you have to complete by the end of your time with the company. I can say that they are quite challenging and keep you busy most of the hours at work. However, if you are free it's good that you take the initiative to go and arrange meetings with colleagues from different teams or to arrange some work shadowing.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think the level of responsibility given to me from my manager is enough for an internship. I was actively involved with projects that my team members were working on. This gives you a lot of exposure to senior management team and also it is a great opportunity to increase your network within the company.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Thanks to this internship I improved my skills in the Microsoft office pack. Also my confidence in completing tasks before a due date increase massively. These are the key skills I have developed during my time at the internship.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere inside the office was great. A very nice and friendly environment. There are places where you can sit down and have an informal conversation with your team members or private rooms for more formal conversations. If you need to ask any question you just go to your colleague desk. Easy and friendly.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • A great internship to be honest. Very well-organized. The internship starts with 2/3 days induction where you have the chance to meet all the interns and engage with them. In the induction they give you a touch of how things work inside the company and which are the values that you have to follow. During the internship, you have the opportunity to attend speeches from senior stakeholders and also people from the executive team. I had the opportunity to meet the company's chairman and also attended the Q2 results event held by the CEO/CFO.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Every intern had a line manager, a mentor and a buddy. So you have three supervisors ready to help you with any kind of questions. This shows how much the company is investing in you and how much they want you to succeed in your career. The company also provided each intern with a laptop, a desk for your work and other accessories.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Financial Bonus

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Very appealing. The graduate scheme that the company offers you after the internship is very interesting and challenging. You have the opportunity to do three rotations throughout your 3 years grads scheme. This is great because gives you the opportunity to understand various businesses inside the company, hence you can make a better decision of which team you want to work with once you finish the scheme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • We had several social events available for all the interns as well as a final farewell event held at the end of the internship. Not only these, other events were available where graduate scheme colleagues have attended as well. Overall, we had plenty of time to know more about each other.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Cost of socializing was quite expensive as the company is based in Canary Wharf. In terms of cost of living, I didn't have to face this problem as I live in London with my family in zone 4 where rents are cheaper compared to the places near the working area.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Canary Wharf is not a great place for nightlife. There are mainly banks in this area so everyone start work at 9 in the morning and finish by 5/6 so there are less and less people after 11pm. Restaurants are closed by 11pm maximum 12 so after that time there is no one around. So, not recommended for those who love parties and late night events.

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were some sports event held outside the working place. Or, for those who love going at the gym, the company have very good facilities in the basement. If you are looking for event or activities outside the work you have to do your own researches as the company don't send you emails for every single event.
