The Role
I really enjoyed the internship overall, as I felt that the firm was very supportive in trying to ensure it was fulfilling. In addition, there were a lot of training events (such as Key Client Programmes) which not only acted as training, but also allowed us to socialise with fellow interns
My team was the Programme Management Organisation team, and I felt that throughout the internship they were very supportive, and encouraged me to contact other departments as well to gain a holistic view of the whole industry. Crucially, they also organised an induction event as there was another new start to the team, which I thought was a nice touch
My supervisor frequently gave me support throughout the duration of the 6 weeks I was at Cushman, giving me advice on how to deal with any problems I may have had not only within work but also during the period of university. She helped to boost my confidence levels a lot.
I felt that my team did not have a lot of work for me to do, particularly in the first two weeks I was mostly left to my own devices. However, in the later weeks the work picked up and it became more interesting to actievly engage in their projects.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility - oen of my tasks was to completely remake a document that was frequently referenced within talks with the client. This was significantly long and took up a fair portion of my time. Aside from this, I was mostly left with tasks that had a deadline of a week.
The issue was that my department was not relevant to my course of study - otherwise, I would have found it significantly more useful. However, it did teach me how to interact with clients and more about their line of work, which is crucial as most property sectors are interrelated
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was really friendly, there were a lot of events organised which meant it was quite sociable. My department organised Pizza and Prosecco night, where there were around 30 pizzas ordered to the office, along with ice cream machines and flavoured coffee machines delivered to the office
IT was quite well organised, as there were a lot of events going on within the firm that were forwarded onto the interns. On the first day, we had an induction day which allowed us to meet all the other interns, and I felt comfortable approaching HR with any issues I had
The firm had quite a few training days, which was really positive and beneficial to see as it suggested that they viewed us as more than laboru for a few weeks but more as potential future employees. One of the talks was on the Key Clients sector, with other talks such as a day in the life of a grad.
Future prospects seem realtively good, as the office culture here is very friendly and interesting. In addition, they have been hiring a lot of apprentices which suggests the firm are quite forward thinking. Crucially, there's a lot of diversity within my department (both in terms of gender and ethnicity) which I really appreciated
The Culture
There was a good social scene amongst the interns, as there were a lot of different events that were set up. In addition, there were quite a few appentices within my department, which was really beneficial as they were closer to our age rather than the rest of the department and the teams.
The area was relatively expensive, particularly as it was located within the City of London. Fortunately, I go to university within london so I could stay in uni acommodation, however I knwo that other interns had really high travelling costs to and from the building. I was fortunate in that some costs were picked up by my team.
