The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at C&W for the past 6 weeks. I have networked, socialised, learnt, developed and improved my skill set and it has made me excited for my future career in property. It was a well run and interesting experience and I would happily do it for longer.
Throughout my time I have been given more tasks and jobs to do by the whole team which varied in content. I see this as reassuring that they enjoyed having me in the team, valued the work I did for them, as well as suggest they trust my ability.
My line manager was great and supported me at every turn. However, the rest of the team from grad level to international partner all offered support when I needed it and helped me with any questions - small or big!
throughout the time I never was without something to do! This varied in what I was doing specifically and also varied in how much at a time but this was great as I like being busy and made the days fly by! Occupier Rep were fantastic in this regard as they recognised I was there wanting to help and support them.
The responsibility I was given grew throughout the 6 weeks but overall would say a fair bit. For someone with a non-cog background, I was given a fair bit of responsibility in tasks, talking to clients and even carried out a solo visit when someone couldn't make it!
The skills and training I've gained will be invaluable for life and especially for my masters/potential grad scheme in the near future! Both on-the-job training within my team, as well as the organised skills sessions for the interns meant I was learning constantly and developing my skills throughout the entirety of the programme.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was welcoming and sociable, meanwhile hard working. I found that the office had a great balance between working hard and getting what needs to be done, done, but still having frequent jokes, humour and conversation throughout the day. This is perfect and everyone understood what was expected from one another.
The programme was set up really well! It was well-structured, clear in what team you were going into, plenty of opportunities to socialise and meet other people in the company (essential for the property industry) as well as recieving great opportunities to learn, work and develop the skills needed for a career in Real Estate!
The firm invested in us quite a lot by giving us a buddy and line manager (which took time out of their days) as well as providing us with training in office etiquette, presentation skills and a day in the life of a graduate. This, combined with us carrying out a presentation at the end of the internship helped us put into practice what we had learnt and recieved feedback from HR and 3 people who work at C&W. Taking this time out of their days, as well as the desire for us to learn and improve our skills shows a good level of investment in us.
Sports and Social Club
Really appealing! I will most definitely be re-applying in October to Cushman & Wakefield for the graduate scheme which commences September 2019. The training seems great, they are going from strength to strength within the industry, and there seems to be a very strong sense of respect for one another (and desire for everyone to succeed). This attitude makes C&W seem like a fantastic place to work! They offer a number of early offers and fast track options meaning the future prospects should hopefully be optimistic!
The Culture
Great social scene! I frequently netoworked with every level, from intern to graduate to associate to partner! There seems to be a great flat structure within C&W where, while some people are very senior, they still treat everyone with the same respect. Similarly, we had organised networking occasions with fellow interns as well as genuine friendships developing. Having lunch with the interns most days was definitely a highlight of my time with C&W
Working within Central London and in the City was inevitably expensive due to circumstances. However, it is all relative and was worthwhile for the long term benefits I gained from it. Unfortunately, anywhere around the city is similar in price so is part of the experience of wanting to work in London!
Nightlife is good but have to travel a little further to get clubs. After work drinks and bars are plentiful and great fun, however, because we are in the City, you have to go slightly further out for nightclubs and so on. Saying this, I have never found this to be a problem as the after-work drinks in bars and pubs are far more important for me!
Yes! I took part in softball and volleyball and also could have been part of netball! There is so much going on within C&W and if I was there for longer, this list could go on and on and on! C&W seem to be great at offering extra-curricular activities as a complete norm and is not forced but is encouraged.
