The Role
The internship was insightful and interesting. Cushman's provided good support during the internship and I was shown the fundamentals of Real Estate in an effective way with regular intern-specific activities interspersed with regular work. It took a while to get into the internship as it was quiet at first with not that much to do but the later weeks really picked up and I had an enjoyable time.
At first the work was very dry when not going out on site visits and I felt I was not learning many of the aspects of real estate that I wanted to. This all changed when I moved teasm and within my new team I could learn much and added to the project and it felt nice to be valued and appreciated.
Management and support was average at first but picked up later I went on and I enjoyed being shown many aspects of real estaet that I had not preivously known. I was then provided with the support that I hoped to receive at first and was given a range of jobs whilst being trusted by my supervisor and the support was ideal at this stage.
Normally I was given a range of activities to get on with and could keep myself happily busy without being overly presssured to make sure that it was completed. We had an intern presentation that we could research, pracitce and finalise if the work was quieter and this added a nice break up to the workday.
By the end of my time at Cushman's my boss trusted me with a range of jobs and it was nice to be given many tasks and being known that they would be completed to the expected standard. Responsibility was not provided much at first but I first had to prove myself and then I was given greater responsibilites.
The training and the skills that I ahve been given will be indispensible once I start my masters in Real Estate. I learnt many of the key industry terms necessary for an understanding of Real Estate as well as a range of Excel skills that will be invaluable in all aspect of life.
The Company
General atmosphere was quite quiet during most hours but was often good fun in the afternoons and we had lots of fun. Great atmosphere was fantastic with the other interns and we had a really enjoyable time, both whilst doing our presentation and during the rest of the time in the office
The internship, on the whole, was organised very well with regular activities and insightful talks planned for us each and every week. The HR team organised us well and gave us lots to do with good scope for our own responsibility. The internship could have been organised better within the team at first as they did not seem to plan for us well at first but soon we were given a lot to do and it was organised effectively.
Felt like they valued having us at the firm and a lot of individuals within the company were more than happy to sit down and invest their time into teaching a whole range of aspects of real estate. We were given a few talks regarding both the company, the future of real estate and presentation skills.
I would certainly be very interested in obtaining a job within Cushman & Wakefield as I really enjoyed the company and the staff within it. I am yet to hear regarding a post-university job with the firm but we are informed of that in the coming few weeks so hopefully.
The Culture
Yes we had a really enjoyable time within our internship group as we had regular meetings in regards to our presentation and also many social events including ones planned by Cushmans and those that we organised ourselves, mainly to the pub. They were very enjoyable and we all got along very well.
The internship was conducted in London so it was obviously quite expensive to live and work. Luckily I could live at home but as one of the most expensive cities in the world, let alone the UK it was quite pricey. We were paid but the cost of London ensured it was not fully saved!
In the West end of London the night life was fantastic and we had many trips to local pubs, bars and club that were very enjoyable. The other group in the city had slightly less scope for a night life as it is naturally better in the West End but it was still enjoyable when we went there.
There were not many opportunities to get involved
