The Role
I really enjoyed it, everyone in the office was really helpful and supportive, always willing to give me advice or help me when I had questions. I completed a wide range of work across a number of different departments and really enjoyed everything I did. Induction was great too.
Everyone in the office made me feel so welcome and supported me a lot. You are given a buddy and counselling manager who are both lovely and give you as much support as you want/need. My colleagues made me feel really valued and made my time there so much better.
As discussed above I was given loads of support and guidance by my counselling manager and buddy. I literally felt like I could ask them anything and they would give me an honest answer. I was lucky that my buddy was in the office for the majority of my time there too.
Due to being an intern most days I didn't have that much work to do so it was often boring. However, there were lots of other people in the office who you could talk to. We also had a CSR project to complete and that could be done when you were bored.
As an intern, most of the work I did was drafting emails or helping with a project rather than playing a massive part. Sometimes this was disheartening but I saw from other people that as you get more qualified you are given a lot of responsibility and there is a lot of opportunity for career progression.
During the induction in Birmingham we did two days of training as well as completing pre-induction work. I didn't use any of this during my time in the internship. If I was to receive a graduate offer, doing the internship will be invaluable as I was completing work on the same level as graduates.
The Company
I really like the culture of BDO, everyone in the office is so supportive and welcoming. BDO really stick to their values and promote them wherever possible in the office. There is always someone to talk to if you need help, advice or you're simply bored. Went to lots of socials which was great
First week in Birmingham and last two days in London wasn't that well organised, a lot of sitting around and not everyone got to stay in a hotel which meant they missed out on the evening socials. Actual internship was very well structured and organised and I always knew what I was doing for the next few days
An induction in Birmingham where we did lots of fun socials in the evenings including pizza making and laser quest. On the last night in London we went to a boat party which must have cost so much money. The company invested a lot in us which made me feel really valued.
The opportunity for a graduate role, which would be really appealing for me. To have a job before starting my final year would be great and take so much pressure off which would be really amazing. Progression is really quick which opens up the doors to success in the future.
The Culture
Yeah, went to lots of social events including office summer party, stream drinks and dinner which was great. The partner always offered to pay and it was a great opportunity to meet everyone from the office outside of a work place setting. Really good social scene and I loved it.
I was staying in my university accommodation so I didn't have to spend money on accommodation. Wages are done on how far away your office is away from London, which doesn't always reflect how expensive the city might be. Drinks and dinner expensive but I was lucky that the partner always offered to pay
Something always going on and people were always going out and doing things. Really good social scene but a lot of the grads don't want to go out as they have to study a lot. Make the most of it before you have to start training and working full time.
Lots and lots. Drinks, dinner, office summer party. People always doing things and always willing to get involved. If you're lucky your office may continue to invite you to drinks and dinner which gives you more opportunities to meet new people, especially if your department is growing. All in all lots.
