The Role
I found the five weeks doing actual work reasonably enjoyable ~ the colleagues were nice and the work was reasonably fulfilling. The first four and last two days spent all together were largely useless and boring days where you waited for the clock to count down. I found this was primarily because they were not challenging or educational, except for 2 actual training days. The socials both for the interns and for the office I was in were very fun, and the highlight of the trip.
I felt the work I did was actually useful to the firm, and my peers respected and supported me.
I met with my counselling manager twice, we did not set targets however I felt they adequately supported me in what was to come ahead.
I would estimate 50% of my time outside of start/end of internship away days was spent doing actual work.
All tasks were simple - this is natural due to the low level of technical expertise. However representing the firm at client sites and meetings was appreciated.
In reality, I probably have minimal head start on actual auditing skills in comparison to a new graduate start.
The Company
Relaxed and friendly. Good people (Reading).
Very organised at the office. We knew the jobs we would be working on from the start. The EiC team didn't send me emails leading to a bit of a panic before the internship because of a misspelling - I do not know whose fault this was.
Minimal training in audit, but an exposure to a wide range of activities was appreciated.
The job suits me.
The Culture
Yes - especially among interns in other offices. I definitely found some strong friends for the future.
Not considered at the time.
Not a relevant question.
Yes, away days, football tournament, time to undertake volunteering. This is the best aspect of BDO.
