The Role
This audit internship was for only 6 weeks but it provided me with various experience, and I got the opportunity to work with three different clients and see different sides of the audit job. It also helped me get a better understanding of what auditors do. BDO's inclusive culture helped me adapt to the job very quickly, with the colleagues being very supportive and friendly.
Although I did not have any previous experience in audit, I could feel that I am a valuable part of the audit team at BDO and that I get to contribute to the company's success. The colleagues I worked with while on different clients were all supportive and gave me various responsibilities in the jobs.
During my work with different clients, I got the opportunity to communicate with more senior people with a lot of experience in the audit field. They were all did their best in showing and explaining to me the BDO's audit approach of adding value to the client and guided me throughout the internship.
Although people may expect that you won't be given much work for a 6 week internship, this was not the case with BDO. I spent most of my working days out on client site where there was always work to do. This is why I enjoyed being given responsibility and get useful experience.
In my internship, I was given enough responsibility to work on different projects and help in various situations. I liked the opportunity to communicate with clients and feel from a first-hand experience what it is like to deal with clients and solve problems together. I was also given the chance to understand the rationale behind more complex accounting matters.
I could undoubtedly say that I developed a better understanding of accountancy and improve my analytical and problem-solving skills to a good extent. I also developed a lot my team working and communication skills.
The Company
It was positive, although you can see that people are busy. They will still find time to help you if you have any questions.
From the training week to the debriefing in the end, the internship was organised very well, with all of the interns being given various opportunities to attend social events and having a break from work.
I was provided with various eLearning modules that help me understand better BDO's system and audit.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would confidently say that an Audit career at BDO sounds appealing to me and I would definitely consider it in my future plans.
The Culture
Absolutely, we were all treated very well by the company and attended various social events.
I did not spend much time in my local area as I was travelling to client sites and the social events were at various locations in the UK. However, the cost of living in my area (Guildford) was acceptable, as well as the socialising.
It was enjoyable and we spent great time with my colleagues.
Absolutely, we were given the chance to enter in different social events.
