The Role
Worked in the BDO Reading office as part of the 6 week internship experience. Thoroughly enjoyed the variety of tasks and projects that I worked on through my time - working in a professional team with Seniors, Assistant Managers and Partners.
Felt very valued by the team and made some good friends in the process too. Everyone was very approachable and welcoming to answer questions about work/career prospects/industry. Was even invited for a great weekend away in Manchester for the BDO National Football Tournament.
My Counselling Manager and Buddy were very kind and supportive and made sure to continually catch up with me to see how I was doing. Whilst on projects, I felt my colleagues valued my work and were always willing to give guidance/constructive feedback to get the best out of me.
The work balance was fine and even in periods where there was little/no work for a client, they were happy to show me other project/areas of work to be getting on with. There was always great variety in the work to do.
I was given the opportunity to learn quickly with completing smaller tasks, before getting on with more difficult work throughout my time here. On client sites it was an enjoyable challenge to take responsibility for different sections of the audit job. We were even given the opportunity to write a UK report for a Partner.
Learnt lots about the industry/about Audit and I feel that I significantly improved my organisation and communication skills in this professional setting with Managers, Partners and my other colleagues. Great variety of clients and great learning experience
The Company
Very warm atmosphere in the office with everyone always happy to have a chat - whether it be about work or about my time here. Particularly at Reading, it was very easy to communicate with Managers, Directors and Assistant Managers whenever needed.
It was very well organised with work always being provided to me on a daily basis. On site work was appropriately organised and travel was expensed.
BDO did so much in terms of investing in me, with a (very fun!) induction week and Corporate Social Responsibility project. Felt very values and great opportunity for personal development.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Excellent future employment prospects in a very warm and welcoming organisation.
The Culture
Really awesome social scene at BDO with weekly organised activities for everyone to get involved with as well as nationwide socials such as footie tournaments.
Very cheap in the Reading area. Also paid the London wage.
Fine
Lots of opportunities with tons of different societies/projects.
