The Role
Overall I enjoyed the internship a lot. I think the colleagues you work with at BDO are such a large part of the internship and it was great to be able to meet likeminded people.
For me the other members of staff working at BDO is what make it such a lovely company. I really enjoyed working within a team of people who were always willing to help.
When on a job I really felt that I could ask anyone any question and that they would do there absolute best to try and help. However, one thing I do think could be improved is the training you get at the start of the internship as I personally felt like slightly more training would have been so helpful to my overall experience.
I was usually quite busy during the days but there were some days, especially at the start, in which I had very little to do. In a way this is to be expected as personally I had a small knowledge of what I was doing but it would have been nice if there were some tasks allocated to me at the start to try and help my learning.
Towards the end I think I was given quite a lot of responsibility. I was trusted by my colleagues to correctly complete a variety of tasks with the knowledge that if I needed any help I would be able to get it.
Personally I don't think it will help with my degree studies much at all from the academic point of view as I study Chemistry. However, it has helped me a lot with organisation and preparation which are skills I would be able to take for more in the future.
The Company
Amazing! For me all the trainees sat together and got on really well! It was a lovely environment and it was nice speaking to so many people from so many different backgrounds. As I have said previously I would recommend BDO as a company purely for the people as it is a great environment (in general) to work in.
I think the overall internship was set up well but I do think there are a few things that could have been improved. For example, I think it would have been really nice for the interns during the first week to get a little bit more downtime where there was no forced socialising as at times it felt a bit too much. Furthermore, I think on a few of the training days there was too many ice breaking activities that could have been replaced with more training that would have been incredibly helpful for people like myself with no accounting background.
I think the company invested a lot in me and I really do think the company did all they could to make the experience as enjoyable and as positive as possible. I think the ILearn resource supplied by the firm is really great for getting the basics down as well.

As mentioned several times I think the firm is a great great place to work for and the environment at BDO is such a nice, yet such a professional environment. Whether the stream of audit is the one for me is a different question but I would definitely say it is an appealing prospect to work for the firm in the future.
The Culture
I believe so yes! On my arrival we went for a meal as a group to introduce me to the team which was so nice for me personally. The firm also do a lot of drink events and evenings that I really enjoyed and made me feel part of the team straight away.
It was very reasonable the prices were good and it was easy to get around and socialise
The nightlife was great! A lot of opportunity and a lot of things to do.
Yes, BDO is great at organising events outside the office and really good at involving people.
