The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. It has been great working with so many different people in such a large company. Experiencing real life projects rather than theoretical studying. I would have preferred if there were more interns in my office to help each other as we are all at the same stage
As I settled in to the company I felt as though my colleagues trust in myself increased, with them allowing me to take on much more important tasks by myself. They treat me as an equal and are always ready to answer any questions I may have. Have felt more a part of the company than I expected before starting
Everyone was ready to help me with any questions or issues I may have faced throughout my placement. Day to day my immediate managers were always around, also senior staff would take time to talk to myself and offer any advice regarding my role and future in the industry with Siemens
For the most part I always have activities to be getting on with as I felt highly involved with the projects I have been assisting with. Though there have been times, when people may be away from the office and all my work has been completed, that I have had to pass the time by completing university tasks or review previous work
Throughout the internship, my responsibility here at siemens has increased. I have been given tasks to oversee myself as well as others where I will work with my colleagues to complete a task. Later on in the internship I have been involved with different disciplines which has increased my responsibility for my role
Certain skills have improved greatly. I have been allowed to attend Microsoft excel training classes, sponsored by Siemens which have been a great help with day to day tasks. Also I feel my inter personal skills have come a long way since I began at the company. They have also given me lots of advice regarding my studies and career paths
The Company
The atmosphere at my office and all Siemens offices I have visited during this period from what I have experienced has been very relaxed and laid back. There is not often a stressful atmosphere. Everyone has been very friendly and helping during my time here. It has made settling in much easier.
The overall organization of my placement from interview right through to now has been very smooth and well set up. There has never been any issues regarding the organization of meetings, events and training. Everyone seems to know what is going on when and where and has all gone very smoothly
The company has allowed me to participate in as much as I can possibly do. Whether it be in or out of office they have always wanted to get the best out of me. It has been possible to receive sponsorship to attend training such as Microsoft excel, and they have encouraged me to make the most of these opportunities
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Siemens is such a big global company with plenty of opportunities in different departments that a future with this company would be a great start to any interns career. Regarding the mobility division which I am working in, Siemens is the largest in Europe and has plenty of opportunities to progress.
The Culture
Everyone at the company has been very friendly and approachable. There have been many events to participate in out of office either internally or involved with our clients or charitable organisations. Over the 12 months I have participated in the 3 peak challenge, multiple sporting days and festive parties throughout the year
Regarding living I have been commuting from my parents home so rent/living costs have been very cheap compared to if I was to have my own accommodation. Travel costs have been the main cost travelling an hour by train from home to the office. Being in Birmingham city centre, there are plenty of cheap option regarding socialising
Having the office located in Birmingham city centre, the nightlife has had a lot of options and is only a short walk away, there are several universities nearby so the majority of places are busy all throughout the week. Living an hour away means travelling home after a night out has not been possible as the last train is midnight. But there are cheap options for accommodation nearby
There have been lots of opportunities to get involved in out of work activities. Lots of people from the office often play team sports after work and have always encouraged others to get involved. Office hours normally finish fairly early so It is possible to spend a biot of time doing your own thing after work
