    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed the majority of tasks I was asked to do. Getting out of the offices on various viewings and meetings help mix it up from being inside an office all day. Particularly enjoyed tasks with an end product, it gave me a sense of satisfaction.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Really enjoyed working with my team and felt I was a valued member within that team. Felt I was trusted and responsible and if I was unsure of anything everyone had plenty of patience to resolve this. Good to get to know a lot of them more on various socials.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Everyone in the office was welcoming and accomodating. Any issues/concerns I had the management was very patient in dealing with. Managers within my team and other teams all made time for me when I had questions or wanted to know more about their roles.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Busy. There were times and days which were slow, but I have the impression that's how the industry goes. Filled in any time with research or related university work.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I felt I was trusted with information and tasks. Took some time at first but when people seen the work I produce became more trusted and from there built up relationships which in turn gave me more responsibility. Felt this would continue had I done more weeks.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Very relevant to my university course and made sure to cover points I was unsure about in university. Gave me great context to my university studies and I will go into my third year a lot more confident.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Atmosphere was positive and friendly. Got along with everyone in the office and enjoyed myself the majority of the time.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Induction in London was well set up and organised. At the beginning of my internship, there wasn't a great deal for me to do, but as time goes by you find tasks to do to help the team. I preferred this exposure as supposed to having all my work set up for me.

    3/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Any training in this role came from learning on the job. Didn't have any specific training sessions set up for me. This is not a criticism, I preferred learning and developing on the job through real life tasks.

    2/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • 4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • On this occasion I did not get a job, but have been given good feedback as to why and how I can improve and being encouraged to apply for the graduate schemes. Fingers crossed my application will progress as I would relish the chance to work for C&W again.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I was the sole intern so nothing specific for an intern. However there were good social aspects with the whole office, including a summer party, which were all enjoyable.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Fairly cheap, lived at home throughout the placement so living was not a cost, I also didn't eat out locally as I prefer cooking my own lunch. Pints around the Cardiff Central area around £4, if that is a good gauge.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Cardiff's night life is great, but as I live there I already knew that.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There were a few opportunities arose throughout the internship. The most enjoyable for me being playing for the property 5-a-side team in Cardiff.
