The Role
There were opportunities to do multiple things, from intern events to evening networking events with people from other banks.
I could see that my work adding value to the team and it will affect the work of that team in a long term.
My line manager gave me a perfect combination of independence and guidance.
Mostly due to nature of work, some days were very busy, while during the others I felt I was not challenged enough. However, it could be compensated my arranging meetings with Barclays employees on those days.
Other members of the team heavily relied on me submitting the required work in time.
I have had multiple opportinites to develop leadership, interpersonal, analytic and other skills. Some approaches to work that I have observed at Barclays can be applied to university work.
The Company
Very positive and friendly. Team was very supportive at difficult times.
At times, there were clashes in timetable, but it was not something that I could not easily manage.
My line manager was the person that invested the most of his time in my development. Barclays could have done better by providing interactive workshops for interns.
Incredibly. The company seems to care about its graduates and is very supportive in terms of career moves.
The Culture
People were amazing, and interns themselves organized multiple social events.
London and Canary Wharf in particular are very expensive. Good salary helps with that partially.
Interns had a chance to work in a branch for a day, however apart from that there were not that many opportunities. Though, it depended heavily on role and line manager. Some interns were involved in volunteering too, for example helping people with mental health issues.
