The Role
I enjoyed my work placement at Microsoft a lot! The opportunities offered were endless from volunteering to project management, I was treated and given the responsibility of a full time employee which not only made me more confident, but also developed many important skills. The responsibilities varied and I never did the same task everyday which made my role even more fun.
I felt valued my colleagues a lot, whenever I organised a successful event or executed a task well, they would always be there to encourage my efforts and congratulate me. However, it would be nice if there was more emphasis on individual contribution, such as rewards or specific recognition which would look good on your CV.
My team supported me very well, whenever I needed help or guidance, they would always be there to assist. However, it does depend on your team, as some people did not communicate with their team as much as their team either travelled or were very busy, therefore, it's highly dependant on who you work with.
I was extremely busy on a daily basis, my day started by me opening emails, responding to them, then attending Skype meetings and the rest of the day working on my varied projects. No day was ever the same and the business definitely kept me going! At times it was stressful, but it's made me value how important it is to be organised.
I was given a great deal of responsibility, being treated like a full time employee. My manager trusted me with huge responsibilities once she began to identify the type of projects I was strong at managing and eventually as the year went on, I had the huge opportunity to organise an event for 200 attendees.
They will definitely assist in my degree studies, from organisational skills in my final year, to communication skills when I apply for graduate schemes, there are a wide variety of skills which can be incorporated into how I study and go about work and responsibilities on a daily basis at university.
The Company
The atmosphere at my office was great! Very relaxed therefore I never felt micro-managed or pressured to execute a specific task at a specific time. The office was large and open, therefore there were many spaces to work from pods to desks, it enabled flexibility in how I do my work and where.
It was very well organised, from the beginning I was given training on how to execute certain tasks, my team structure and told to ask any questions. Initially, I was nervous so to be told to ask any question by the senior manager was great and put me at ease.
A great deal of investment! We had so many opportunities, from volunteering to teaching, all to stretch our personal skills. As well as this, we had the opportunity to partake in 101 teams which was small teams we got to chose which represented different concepts. This was a great chance to input our ideas and make impact!

They offer a great graduate scheme which we get the opportunity to interview for ahead of other students!
The Culture
The social scene was only in Reading, however, a lot of effort was made to integrate London interns.
Very expensive, but worth it!
Great nightlife.
Many volunteering opportunities emailed out regularly.
