The Role
I have enjoyed it even more than I was expecting before the start. I can confirm that I have learnt a lot and I am already surprised by the improvement in my performance and the things I have learnt in just two months here. Moreover, I have been mainly assigned to a project of an industry I am really interested in, which I really appreciate. Also, the atmosphere at Madrid office is amazing, and I have felt very welcome from the very first day here at BAML.
As said, I think the atmosphere at BAML and specifically at the Madrid office is amazing, much better than in other companies I have also spent an internship period. Despite being an intern, here I have felt that the other colleagues have treated me like another member of the team and they have assigned me relevant tasks, so I have felt an important.
They have helped me every time I have asked for it and they have spent enough time explaining me how to do the tasks. Moreover, I appreciate the fact that they have also let me work independently, which have allowed me to get a feeling that they also trust me and my performance
I was assigned in a project from the very first day I arrived at the office and I have also helped other colleagues in tasks from different projects, so I can confirm I have spent almost 100% of my time being busy, which I really appreciate as it is important to learn as much as possible in this short time
As said, I have felt like an important member of the team, as I have been assigned important tasks in different projects. Also, when possible, I have been given autonomy to do the tasks under my own criteria. Despite this, I have received many advice from my colleagues, which have allowed me to learn in an optimal way
I am going to study the Master in Finance next year at HEC Paris, which is currently the #1 in the FT ranking. Thus, I think I will take profit of all the knowledge I have learnt during my internship. I am sure the criteria and methodology learnt during this period will help me in my future tasks, and also I will be able to be more efficient and to know where and how to find the information I need quicker. So I am sure this training will help me both from a theoretical a practical perspective
The Company
As said, I think the atmosphere at BAML and specifically at the Madrid office is amazing, much better than in other companies I have also spent an internship period. Honestly, I have been pleasantly surprised by this fact, as I have been told sometimes that Investment Banking atmosphere is very hard, which has not been the case at least during this period. Here people have been really nice with me and I have also realized that there is a positive relation and respect between all my colleagues
I think it was organized in an optimal way. I have been assigned in a project from the very first day, and when there were less work to do for that project, I have also been helping other colleagues in different projects, which has allowed me to be busy almost 100% of the time.
I am based in the Madrid office, but the company allowed me to spend the first week of my internship with the rest of my colleagues in London, which I really appreciate. This was a huge investment by the bank, due to the accommodation, trip and also the high-quality training provided. Then, during the internship, there have been approximately a training per week, and also the other workers have spent part of their time to make sure I learn in a right way
Company Parties/Events
I think Bank of America is a great company to work for. The learning curve is huge and the growth prospects are very attractive. I think is a great company if you want to be compensated and you are willing to learn and work a lot
The Culture
Yes, the first week all interns are reunited in London for a week, which is a great opportunity to get to know people from other offices. Also, there have been some informal social events during these weeks with my colleagues of the Madrid office, which have been a great opportunity to get to know them outside the office and also to meet senior members of the team
Madrid is not cheap, but it is much cheaper than London, so the intern salary is more than enough to live there. I have spent around 1200€/month
Madrid is a very live city, despite during the summer there is less life than during the rest of the year, as a lot of people is spending its holydays outside the city. However, it is a great city to live and meet people
There are not much time during the week as I have usually gone out of the office at 10pm, so there is not much time. However, all the weekends are free so there is time to also have fun and do other activities
