The Role
I very much enjoyed my internship and found it really interesting and insightful and overall a great experience. It allowed me to gain a real insight into the world of finance and banking, having the opportunity to see interactions with several different clients, how my team works together as well as seeing other areas of the bank.
I definitely felt valued by my colleagues. Right from the start, I was made to feel very welcome within the team and it was made clear that if I wanted any help with anything, or had any questions, I could go to them. The projects that I have worked on have also been praised by my colleagues, saying that they will add genuine value to the team following my internship.
I was given guidance by my supervisor in terms of being given different projects to work on, as well as having regular check-ins to see what I had been doing during that week and if I had any concerns.
On nearly all days during my internship, I have been busy with several different team projects to work on, shadowing as well as my intern project. There was never really a time when I was doing nothing as there was always something to be getting on with, and if not I could spend some time shadowing.
As an intern, it would always be difficult to give huge amounts of responsibility from the outset, however, as the internship progressed, I was given more tasks to complete and have completed several different projects which have importance for the growth objective of the team.
I have developed many different skills across my internship which will help me in future. I have been able to communicate with many different colleagues in my team as well as across the bank, and worked in a team on many occasions. I have also gained some technical skills in terms of financial analysis and what considerations go into a deal decision.
The Company
It was a very positive, engaging and amiable atmosphere in my office with all team members happy to help.
Overall, the internship was well organised with different training days and events. A large part of the internship, however, was about being proactive and organising your own learning experiences.
The company has invested in me over the course of the internship, with several events and training days across the scheme and several pieces of technology such as the netbooks which have been invaluable over the internship.
Company Parties/Events
This is very appealing- I have learnt a lot from many different colleagues within the bank and would be very excited to stay on with the company, as the internship provides a good introduction to the prospect of the graduate scheme.
The Culture
Yes there was a good social scene amongst fellow interns and colleagues, with regular meet-ups with other interns as well as networking events with colleagues.
I was able to live at home during my internship which took away the cost of living- and most places at which we socialised were not more expensive than what you would expect in a city.
The nightlife was good with several different areas and bars.
Yes there were several different networking events, as well as the CSR charity day mid-way through the internship.
